Thread: Running a Myford S7 in Reverse
07/02/2022 19:11:35

Been screwcutting I’m my S7 for more than 30 years and have never had a problem. The great thing with the S7 is the mainshaft locking pin enabling the chuck to be well tightened. Also when you consider that the forces for screwcutting are much lighter than for normal turning operatios

Thread: Case Hardening
07/02/2022 11:45:02

As my case hardening is all small parts sub 3 mm I have always had great success with box hardening. The parts come out pristine and a beautiful grey all over

Thread: Advice and assistance sought - kickstart gear quadrant
27/01/2022 22:35:37

My Chief has a kicker similar to that but according to the Indian spares people they should be made from a ductile iron mine is, it’s supposed to withstand shocks better and lets face it hard or soft you are never going to wear it out. Plus one for fabrication. Starter ring gears are soft and they last ok.

Thread: Cast Iron C section
24/01/2022 21:48:04

Looks horribly like a section used on double / triple footway covers to bridge the gap between lids. I still have a little.

24/01/2022 10:13:43

Heat your chilled Castings to red heat and hold for several mins then wrap in insulation to slow the cooling process.should be ok after that.

Thread: New highway code rule.
23/01/2022 09:16:54

Most people have come to accept that as the norm, I for one don’t.

Thread: Brass casting - who to contact?
23/01/2022 09:14:28

Try your local model engineering club ,they may have a contact. On the other hand you could ask Noel!!

Thread: The southern federation
23/01/2022 09:12:21

I thought that the idea was to have one organisation doing things once not two organisations doing things twice . And a much more sensible idea as filling posts in these organisations seems to be getting more difficult.

22/01/2022 19:27:58

Surely it’s not the southern fed anymore but the federation of model engineers

Thread: 'Vision aid magnifying glasses', any good?
20/01/2022 12:15:00

I used to use Binomags for years I think they were ex WD and really good but had a set of optivisors bought me (lucky me) with two sets of lenses and they are fantastic. Beautifully clear and loads of room for your specs under them.

Thread: Tangential tool sharpening

I’d have to go with Andy G don’t think it’s likely to be CZ121. You can get curls with some tools on CZ120.

Thread: A Tale of Two Indicators
14/01/2022 14:41:00

sorry Clive but clockmaker fits fall way short of good engineering and toolmaker fits. i say this from the viewpoint of having made two coaxial finders and the fit of the parts has to be a minimum of reamed holes and polished shafts? plungers. short article for MEW awaiting printing.
