Thread: Delay to Issue 299
01/03/2021 00:57:53

Hi Nimble

I am in Hamilton and the last MEW I received was 298 and like you am still awaiting the next 3 issues.

I do have a paper and digital subscription which helps but I prefer the paper version.

The Auckland Covid 1 week lockdown and no MEW is a bit rough. face 24

Just as a matter of interest MEW 298 arrived in my letter box here in NZ on Saturday but slow delivery no real problem as I also have a digital subscription. However my aging eyes and brain do prefer paper over digital.

Thanks to Neil and the MEW team for their efforts during these difficult times.

Hi Ian S C

The second DH98 Mossie is well out of the molds and due to be test flown later this month.

There are 4 blogs on the first page, then go to the next page (older posts) where the 5th blog gives the history of TV959 ZK-FHC.

Ian, have you come across ZK-DBI which was at Ashburton for many years and now at Rangiora as you are close to these places.

Hope the link works ok as it has been a long time between posts.

Thread: qualos junior lathe
24/06/2014 23:01:49

Rod,

That's a dandy little formula but maybe too complex for the CNC place I went to as they poked around in a cupboard and pulled out a tooth gauge just like and overgrown thread gauge!

Thanks Rod,

Regards,

Pat

Kevin

Went to a local CNC engineering shop and they measured with a gauge and said it was 12 DP.

Hi Kevin,

I have a Qualos Junior purchased about 30 years ago which was my learning curve, gave it little real use and now unused for last 10 years when replaced with a Taiwanese TY 11 X 24B.

The Qualos has a complete set of 11 screwcutting gears, unused by me, are in excellent condition except for one that has about two thirds of a tooth broken off. They are made of black bakelite (or something similar) and branded Qualos.

I have no idea what the DP is, but have measured the overall dia. of three which may be of help:

20 tooth 1.832" dia. give or take 2 or 3 thou. as readings vary but I have quoted torwards the higher end of all readings.

40 tooth 3.490" dia.

60 tooth 5.160" dia.

Just in case you ask I would not sell the gears separately from the lathe.

p.s. Tomorrow I will get professional advice as to DP and post it here.

Thread: Lads and Dads Mill Engine

Hi Stew,

I have been a lurker on this forum for some years, subscribe to MEW which I very much enjoy and would like to construct your Lads and Dads Mill Engine.

Do you have drawings available or have they been published in ME.

Attached is a youtube 16 minute video taken from the cockpit of Mosquito KA114 from Ardmore airfield and over Auckland accompanied by two seat Spitfire and a Vampire. They used a headcam on the passenger.
Some of you may have seen it before.
Hope the attachment works ok as I have not done this before.

Ian,

I went to the airshow today and the Mosquito put on three seperate displays. Most impressive low fast sweeping turns to show off the plan and underside views to the crowd with with the only sound I now know to be better than one Merlin!

A great credit to all those that made it happen.

The owner of the restoration company said a second one will be completed in 2015, a P3 I think.

The Spitfire you referred to with a wheels up situation is I believe a homebuilt replica.

If anyone here has Ladybird plans - could they copy the bit for the cowling for me?

Neil,- Try this **LINK**

They list 3 Ladybird plans although one is rubber powered.
