To be honest Paypal gives a fair protection for the buyer as you have found, if there is blatant dishonesty they will act. I for one would like to see photos.

I can only go back to my apprenticeship starting 1970 & safety was of paramount importance then, it's no fun going through life missing fingers or minus an eye!

Clear case of 'item not as described' seller should refund all the purchase price plus your costs to send it back.

What a lovely bit of kit but I've never seen anything like it in my engineering career, likely made for one specific task, hopefully there are some makers marks on it?

Calum, I wouldn't fancy filing those shapes in hardened HSS, by all means have a go & report back. What would the tools be producing?

I would say not unless the design calls for it, i.e. when I made & fitted a new spindle to a Myford ML7 the also new bearings shells needed scraping 'in'.

I have 3 children all with degrees, my son came out the best financially as he did an electronics engineering apprenticeship & was then sponsored by his company to go through uni whilst working, takes longer but no debt! He has a first class degree in electronics engineering so not a 'soft subject' by any means.

Sorry you will not get anything half decent for £500, I know you will have an emotional attachment to the Southbend but my suggestion is go for one decent lathe i.e. sell the SB & Lorch and invest in a decent machine, just my opinion.

Don't know what they are but pretty sure they are not turning tools. Maybe forming punches for sheet metal ???

Any cutter can be broken & a T slot cutter is not the most robust of things, the OP said this was his first attempt at a T slot, maybe with no guidance from a more experienced machinist.

Do you mean you wasted thousands of pounds of taxpayers money so likely a defence contractor? I don't like to blow my own trumpet like some on here but 49 years in precision machining working across various industries gives me a fair idea what is and what is not possible. Oh and my last 2 years of paid work was for a defence contractor who will remain nameless.
