MichaelG, sorry if I offended you, I can be a bit picky sometimes, it obviously annoyed you. It seems that Aim is located only a couple of miles from me in a warehouse, they may be useful to me in the future. Cheers, Tony |

"qty 3" may actually (in the sellers mind) mean "quantity" . I bought an ER20 collet from them a month or so ago and received a sealed pack of 3, on informing them of their mistake, they expected me to pay for the other 2. I ended up posting them back at my expense. You are super 'honest' as the listing clearly says qty 3 so no idea why you sent 2 back. Tony |

I looked at the listing and the huge quantity of photos and only saw Premium mentioned. APT list the max runout for their products. Premium means absolutely nothing as far as a concentricity value but £3.99 for 3 is a giveaway, maybe. Tony Edited By Tony Pratt 1 on 08/11/2022 17:42:36 |

I agree with Andrew & whatever method you use the tip has to be set up correctly to give a symmetrical form. You may have also set the required 27.5 degrees from the wrong axis? Tony |

I think there are 20 million feral hogs in the USA causing billions of dollars worth of damage per year? Even with their unlimited supply of guns they can't control them. Tony |

I must say that given the difficulty of making this, which would seem to need a way to hold a dividing head at a 45* angle, I think the design is not very well though out. I'd be inclined to machine the arc vertically on the end of the bar and put the scale on the top surface with a small block for the fiducial mark. But actually, is the scale likely to be very useful? You could always use a protractor to set the angle. Edited By John Haine on 07/11/2022 11:30:26 The majority of dividing heads will swivel to 45 degrees. Tony |

I can't see a problem, Hollowpoint has been around the forum for a while & his commercial interests are hardly on the scale of Amazon. Tony |

There were conflicting business goals trying to force engineering to accept non certified parts to get goods out the door Have a look for a book (freely available in pdf form) called 'Truth, lies and O-rings' for the ultimate expression of this. I haven't looked yet but am assuming it is the space shuttle disaster? Tony |

I ended up some time ago in a 'product support' role working for a firm making aircraft seats and galleys, we were extremely regulated and it beggars belief that someone used a non certified supplier for flight critical parts, a right PIA as regards paperwork but you can see why it's needed. There were conflicting business goals trying to force engineering to accept non certified parts to get goods out the door and earn cash but that had to be resisted, one clueless buyer said to me 'it's only glue' when he couldn't source the certified adhesive as if anything would do. John D, are you using a feed motor to raise and lower the table? Having heard the video we can all tell it's not the gib but my X table travel will sound like that when the motor gear comes a bit out of mesh. Tony |
16/10/2022 08:11:13 |
I have a Myford VME and doubt that you could buy new gears with any certainty but I too don’t think that is the problem, more likely to be a tight gib. Tony |
