Thread: QCTP Identification

My original wedge type came from Arc, very good quality and all extra holders have fitted nicely, some cheaper tool holders I bought have been a bit hit and miss, I will stick with the genuine Arc ones in future.

Just another point, I prefer the ‘wedge’ variation of this toolpost type

Ah another frequently asked question, the honest answer is they may be, but the only way to ensure compatibility is to source from one retailer, any problems with fit etc would be down to them.

Thread: Naerok mill spindle runout

Hmm I see,so what would an ideal runout be .0005” or less?

Well the less the better but we are talking about a hobby mill, an industrial machine costing £££'S should have little discernible internal spindle taper run out when new.

.001" isn't the best but you will be able to cut metal, I worked on large mills for many years and their spindle run out was far worse than yours.

Hi Guys, I suggest you refrain from trying the face off and check the pip method if you are using carbide inserts. It is liable to wipe the edge off your insert if the height is too low. Don't ask.... actually most of the tips I have done in have been from doing this without remembering, eg the job need facing so you wind the tool into the middle, it turns out to be a smidgeon low, exit one insert.

I've never had a problem, maybe lucky?

Thread: Taps and die recommendation

Posted by JasonB on 16/12/2022 17:01:27:

Again it all comes down to what you want to pay, a 0-10BA tap and die set need not contain bottom of the line items. Take this one for example which will have good quality contents

Interesting, less than 4 miles from my house in a residential street, I wonder where the items are being made?

Surely if the carbon steel tap or die is correctly and accurately ground then there is no reason for it to be of low quality even if it wears a little quicker. It’s the quality that counts more than the material.
regards Martin

Invariably carbon steel taps are not ground, maybe the flutes but not all over as per HSS.

Unfortuanateley Dave the NHS is seen as a sacred cow, no one party dare sort it out if that is actually possible! Whoever is in power can do 'no right' according to the opposition, the only way forward is to have a cross party committee to try to achieve a consensus on improving the NHS, at the moment it is going downhill fast for many many reasons.

To anyone misinterpreting my initial posting as having a go at the Indians (NON racist remark) on the shop floor, read again. The service tendered by the medical staff, on the three occasions I've had to be admitted into Hospital can only be described as exemplary. Two were for non invasive treatment that a local GP could not have issued medication to cure but on one of these encounters it was discovered that I was going to need an urgent operation to insert a new piece of pipework (Triple A). On observation in recovery, It became blindingly obvious the amount of waste being generated.

Sadly, if a thousand billion was 'Invested' into the NHS they would still be screaming for more.

Regards Ian.

Sadly Ian you have hit the nail squarely on the head!sad
