Thread: Vertex VTA13-3 tapping head

Thank you gentlemen. I though it was more than it is.

Another misguided purchase!

Anyway now I might start to use it.

Thanks again.

I bought one of these things thinking it would be useful. It is anything but obvious how to use it and there are no instructions. I've searched the web, but all to no avail. Not even a You Tube video!

The device itself is marked as TC13-MT2.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks.

Thread: ME Beam Engine
31/12/2022 12:12:46

Gentlemen, thanks for all those replies - very useful.

I did a bit of searching on Brunell and I see what you mean.

I know M-Machines quite well, I like the fact that you place your order in the afternoon and collect it next morning. Great service.

I've used JB Weld as an adhesive a couple of times, but never as a 'structural' item, so that will be interesting.

Well, enough prevaricating. Time to get on with the machine.

One last thought, can someone point me to the ME issues that cover this engine.

Thanks.

I had intended to build a 'Lady Stephanie' beam engine but, after a dreadful experience with Reeves - who I will never buy from again - I am now looking at the ME Beam Engine.

I note from a couple of threads that the Reeves castings are preferred over those offered by Brunell and I wonder why?

Is there a reason to avoid Brunells?

Thread: Lady Stephanie
11/12/2022 11:41:22

In reply to Ian Johnson's post with a picture of the drawing, I recently bought the set of drawings for Lady Stephanie, but the quality of my drawings was nowhere near as good as Ian's. Mine looked like 4th generation photocopies and were so poor that a lot of the detail was very difficult to see.

I complained to Reeves, but was met with a very curt reply from the lady on the phone to the effect that they wouldn't change them or give me a refund.

I wrote to them with an official complaint and was told that there was nothing wrong with the drawings.

I will certainly NEVER use this company again, and would advise others to do the same. They don't deserve our hard-earned cash.

Thread: AJ Reeves - what is there service like?
16/11/2022 19:34:31

What is thier service like? Terrible.

I ordered a set of "Lady Stephanie" drawings and when they arrived I checked that all the sheets (8) were there.

After a bit of a delay finishing off the previous project, I started to study the drawings. It was then that I realised that they were probably at least 4th generation photocopies.

They were difficult to read and in some cases downright impossible to see details.

I rang Reeves only to be told that as it was more than 14 days since I ordered them, they wouldn't do anything about it. The lady I spoke to was curt, to the point of being downright rude.

I am now left with £28 worth of useless drawings and a feeling of having been 'done'.

I will NEVER use this company again.

Thread: Access to online magazine
14/02/2022 13:22:29

I've just had an email telling me that, due to external delivery problems, I can access the online version of ME.

What it didn't give me was a subscription number.

Am I missing something?

Thread: Gas burner for steam plant
08/08/2016 17:08:36

Thanks for that guys. You have given me a few ideas.

I've got a spare Ronson gas torch lying in the workshop.

I think its about to be modified.

Peter.

Thanks for that, but I think it might be a bit too small. My boiler is about twice the size of his so it's going to need a lot of heat.

05/08/2016 16:39:00

I have just finished phase 1 of my latest project - a 5 foot long rear paddle steamer - at present powered by an electric motor. Phase 2 is steam power and I'm well on, having built the boiler and started on the cylinders. What I need now is information- and possibly a proven design- for a gas torch burner for the boiler. The fire tube is 1 inch od, so the burner has to fit that. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful. Thanks.

By the way, if anyone's interested, you can see the development of the steamer here:-
