Thread: Arc Euro Trade ML7 cross slide leadscrew modification |
08/10/2013 20:25:35 |
My S7 is pre PXF and Arc told me that their mod-kit only suitable for ML7s, not "Supersonics" but I didnt know that Mr S was working on such a project. |
08/10/2013 16:37:10 |
John Corden, I am a bit confused as you said Mr S was researching for a Super 7 mod. Not so long ago, I enquired of Arc about a Super7 version and they said they dont do one. Edited By DMB on 08/10/2013 16:38:04 |

Thread: What is this locomotive component for? |

Does this mean that injectors used in full size are replaced (in whole or part) by that awful abomination of an axle-driven pump in the miniature sizes? All that friction of an eccentric shoving a fat pump ram along a close fitting pump barrel. At least Stroudley recognised the benefits of a ram of smaller diameter than the barrel. Friction only occurred where the ram rubbed the bore of the stuffing gland. No air locks and would pump water @ any temperature. I believe he also took a friction-less drive off the crosshead. |

Clk on piccy of latest MEW (no.208) @ top + up comes big pic of it. BUT! line 1 in green lettering reads issue 207. Line 2 in much smaller black lettering says in shop issue 208. Line 3 reads it is on sale now. How confusing. I have got both on subs. I still think it all reads a bit odd. It would appear to be OK if the green lettering was altered so that "207" was up-dated to "208" Edited By DMB on 30/09/2013 17:34:37 Edited By DMB on 30/09/2013 17:35:19 |
Thread: unwanted adverts |
03/09/2013 22:10:04 |
When I started this thread, I intended to use it to draw attention to rogue advertisers but it seems to have been hijacked by Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all to put DC1 in the same category!! In all probability, the mag. owners need to "sell-up" on as much advertising as they possibly can whilst the going is good. I expect that eventually the Internet will devour them and every other Newspaper and Magazine, since this seems to be the way everything is going. Get it online or go without @ sometime and maybe in not too distant future. I might add that this is NOT my wish, just how the world is changing. Wasn`t that long ago when we did not have a phone in pocket instead of the red box 1/4 mile away!

Russell, I think this is yet another example that the bean counters ("charge as much as the market will bear") have taken full overall control of the company! John Edited By DMB on 29/08/2013 10:49:49 |

I always say I have the best firewall in the world for on-line banking - its called DONT! In the case of above, I fear that a lot of us are liable to drop our guard and click on almost anything on this and similar forums. Sooner or later we are likely to get stung. I am therefore keen to see only regular users and not outright strangers like the above advertiser who doesnt even appear in the mags. As regards Neil`s comment about getting castings from India, I would think that the cost of postage would be a little off-putting unless they were Ali/Alli-alloy. John |

JasonB, Under Member Profile, it shows a box which always says "member off line" In messages, under received date, "new 24/08/2013 08:35:59" This is in bold type, probably to heighten attention. "From" reads, Kailash Hind Alloy Industries. "Subject" = "Manufacturer" again in bold type. Then it goes on aout the owner as written above by "Stick" Where can I find the username? John. |
26/08/2013 21:33:02 |
I have recived an unwanted advert in my messages for Kirit Chandani of Kailash Hind Alloy Industries, Gujurat, India. I replied, "No thank you" No polite reply if I get any more. Moderators please bar this gentleman and his company.

Thread: New subscriptions, am I thick or what? |

Wot, 92 quid for ME? First issue I bought from newsagent all those years ago, 21st(?) June 1962, was I think, 1/3d in old money, weekly. Thats about 6p in new money. For those too young to know, 1/3d is how we used to write 1 shilling and 3 pence in the old duo-decimal currency era. A combination of inflation and "paying through the nose" for convenience of decimal currency and financial greed aka "charge as much as the market will bear" as the bean - counters say. As a matter of interest, I first learned about the existence of the hobby and of ME when one of the kids brought handfulls of 1940s copies to school and shared them out. |

Hi Paul, Welcome to the Forum. I agee with those who say try something simple to start and if you really are determined to start with a big loco like Springbok, to try making the coupling hook first. Inexpensive, a file and emery cloth and no doubt someone will send you a copy drawing from the relevant ME, if you ask. Do bear in mind that the large copper boiler requires quite a lot of expenditure on gas and burners not to mention silver solder in quantity and of course the copper. Suggest you ask Helen Verrall or one of the other professional boiler makers for a price for a completed boiler - could be a lot cheaper than a lot of spoiled copper + s.s. Dont want to put you off but the trade say a lot more castings sets sold than finished locos around which suggests that a lot give up at the finished chassis stage. I bought in my completed 5"G boiler as its quite big. I am happier maching up chassis parts which is what I am doing now. Good luck, let us all know what you decide and keep us up to date with progress. All the best, John.

Nick, Thats very interesting. Peter, I agree with your last post that if you have the hard copy you retain control in being able to copy articles or scan any or all and not risk losing it due to say computer breakdown. John. |

Drove a few miles "up the road" to Sheffield Park, Bluebell Rly. Took return trip to East Grinstead on their new extension. Its now quite a decent run with a nice long tunnel, an experience which I have found missing on various preserved railways. Very enjoyable day out - a change from work. "Nose to grindstone" again tomorrow. |

ME from June `62 to date and purchased back copies to 1930. MEW 1st copy to date and still like a pig in muck when each copy arrives. Managed very well all these years by referring back through my carefully kept library. Very recently given free digi copies which I have occasionally looked through as its lazy option to going in to my `library` so will I miss that when I continue with my print only? No, I dont think so - as the youngsters these days say, "Do I look bovvered?" |
