Thread: Yet another parting-off question
17/05/2020 10:44:49

I had the same problem with a dished profile when parting off even on 1" dia.. Turned out (excuse the pun) that the tool post wasn't tight enough and was creeping round.

Thread: DRO Flashing
24/04/2020 10:18:55

The DRO on the Z-axis of my WM14 mill has started flashing suggesting a low battery voltage. I replaced the battery but it still flashed after about 30 seconds. Does this suggest that the DRO is kaput.

Thread: Last Night's Astro Image
28/03/2020 10:16:52

If you have an i pad look out for an app called night sky. Not only does it show planets, stars, galaxies etc. but also all satelites and space junk and can show the night sky from any point on earth. It will also show infra red and microwave.

Thread: Metric V Imperial Measurement
08/02/2020 10:49:17

"For what it's worth, in the mid 70s I was fortunate enough to be working as a ships draughtsman on the T22 frigate which became HMS Broadsword. This ship was all metric, and I was told that it was the first ship classified as "metric" to be designed and built by the MOD(N)"

Even Richard Burton worked in Imperial as he was always asking for the conversion  "Broadsword to Danny Boy"

Thread: Scam alert
20/12/2019 10:31:37

I don't believe it. As I was reading these postings I had a call about my am a zon account. I pressed 1 and as soon as I asked for their name they hung up and I was so looking forward to wasting their time.

Thread: Adhesive to bond metal to glass
20/12/2019 10:14:03

Search for a free sample of the new loctite hy4070. It's meant for industry so you have to cheat by making up a company name.

I have an old (1940's) mantle clock that has given up the ghost. What cleaning material should I use and what type of oil to lubricate it.

Thread: Drill running off course
17/09/2019 09:59:55

I have just drilled a 2.6mm hole through a piece of gunmetal 5/8" long on the drill press. The drill ran of course and exited the metal off centre. How do I stop it running off centre.

Thread: Stuart beam engine cylinder
28/08/2019 12:08:06

The cylinder casting for the Stuart beam engine has inlet ports cast into the side (location of the steam chest) and inlet ports on each end of the cylinder. Are these ports connected and if so how do I remove the casting sand that appears to be blocking them.
