Gentlemen

Many thanks to all who have replied,

Plan B, Put it back in the cupboard and worry about it when I have to, I have more important things to do.

Many thanks for your replies, tried the vice thing but felt the handle might break before it twists, anybody know the thread size that holds it in, thought maybe drill close to the size then try twisting again.

Does anybody have any experience regarding the removal of the copper head in a Thor copper and rawhide hammer, the copper end is getting short so if I can remove it a new one can be fitted bringing it back to life.

Many Thanks

With regard to all the Kerfuffle about what you did today and all the changes that should be made to keep it an engineering thread, WHY are there still engineering subjects on the what you did today thread and woodworking subjects on the new engineering thread, why cant you just leave it as it was!

You are the lucky ones, down here in Devon & Cornwall we will not see it as the nearest flightpath is Bristol tomorrow, my friend Brian has a bad back and cannot do the journey so he is not too happy with the Vulcan Trust having donated over many years to it and also serving in the RAF and seeing the Vulcan bombers close up on the bases.

Thread: Hard spots in mild steel

I turned a piece of mild steel plate to make a 6" backing plate for something and across the middle was a seam that was very hard and blunted the tool a few times, it was possibly a weld but there was no indication that it was and I made sure the holes were well away from the hard bit.

Can I suggest contacting your local motor rebuild company and see if they have a better quality brush as the Chinese ones are very coarse and leave dust all over the motor inside which then causes tracking and trip problems.

Peter

If its a brush motor check for sticky brushes, well known fault on Chinese gear.

You have been backscattered, try changing your email password, if that doesn't work get on to your email supplier and get them to sort it, if that doesn't work your only other option is to change your email address, speaking from experience!

Check the motor brushes for sticking in the holders and clean out any carbon dust around the brushes as this will cause tracking and will blow the trip, suggest checking and cleaning brushes annually, known fault from personal experience especially if you have an old current operated trip like mine.

Thread: Vertical Alignment Jig
01/02/2015 11:17:30

Gentlemen

I tried to display the page from ebay on this site but it wouldn't work, what is a URL? the number for the item is 151572271639, and if you look up Vertical Alignment Jig it will be the first item shown, I would much prefer to spend my time in the workshop than fiddling around with a computer.

There is a thing called a Vertical Alignment Jig being advertised on ebay, just wondered it the well informed amongst us knows what it is or what it's used for.

Thread: Vanishing local shop outlets.

I shall continue with the same old rant! if the councils were to abolish parking charges between friday evening and monday morning people will use the town centres as there are more products available than supermarkets which would then enliven the high street and would encourage new business, I also think that huge supermarkets should pay a levy for taking away the high street trade, personally I only use supermarkets if I have to, better meat from the local butcher not unhung fresh tough meat, decent bread from our local baker not steam baked bread that is stale the next morning, even the local DIY has stuff you cant get in the big stores, and another thing! as young people dont have the DIY skills that we have attained, they still wonder why the shelf fell down when they used the reccommended product and read the instructions and it went on the wall ok only to fall off taking the wallpaper with it, true story, also now get comments like "why does your varnished wood shine when mine is all cloudy", blame the EU for that what with banning high vc products etc, time for tea. face 8

One reason for purchasing a Honda Jazz 1.4 (actually 1.3 something) was room for a spare wheel, the dealer charged about £170 but for peace of mind it was worth it, my wife's Seat Arosa has a space saver and she knows how to change a tyre so once again peace of mind, mind you I have to run the Jazz on super unleaded as it's gutless what with a mixture of town, lane and hill driving living in the sticks as such..

Thread: Good ceramic tube supplier for making sparkplugs?

I repaired a miniature plug years ago using the body of a wirewound resistor and using diamond saws and burrs to shape it, you could try to find some on ebay or ex WD if it helps,
