Thread: Web-sites Going AWOL
30/10/2019 08:55:47

I find it easier to use an iPad or Android tablet for web browsing or eBay etc, just use computer for things that need it.The links on the thread opened OK using iPad using mobile phone as a hotspot.

Thread: Tingling from Myford Super 7
07/10/2019 15:03:59

If your house is wired using PME system ,there could sometimes be a potential difference between the earth you’re stood on and the earth your lathe is connected to, possibly giving a slight tingle.

Best advice is isolate it and get a qualified electrician to check it.

Thread: Caravan Insurance
22/09/2019 12:49:29

Why would you not want to fully insure a £16000 caravan ,it would only cost 2 pints of ale a week.

Thread: Dumb question from a none driver
31/08/2019 19:04:26

I can’t believe how such a simple question has turned out to be so complicated.

31/08/2019 09:23:48

Regarding ownership of cars most cars on the road are not owned by driver ,they are owned by finance company ,bank etc.

31/08/2019 09:10:20

Surely the answer is simple ,the person who bought and paid for the car and has a receipt is the owner .The person named on the V5 C is the registered keeper. This does need to be the same person.

The insurance company might want to know who the owner is but DVLA won’t .

Thread: Babani Press
17/08/2019 23:55:34

Thanks for link to this brilliant site. I have several Babani books bought years ago. They still turn up at boot sales etc.

I bought 2 of them about 3 weeks ago.

The multiplier K M G T is always a capital letter when it is used in front of B for bytes or b for bits.

Thread: Electric Cars

Thread: Yesterdays Car Boot Haul! Odd items
23/06/2019 13:45:41

The smallman clip was used to fasten a small rail truck on to a haulage rope which ran between the tracks .A larger version was used on the 2foot gauge tracks in coal mines.

Thread: Electronic Noise and ARDUINO
22/06/2019 22:06:52

I see now why you have 0 volt line and earth , your 0 volt is on the arduino ,as it’s powered by a separate battery. As I said in a previous post ,I would try to eliminate the interference before doing anything to the arduino.

22/06/2019 20:36:59

Could you please explain the difference between the 0 volt line and earth on car. Surely they are the same thing.

I would remove the fan belt and see if it makes it any better and fit a new condenser across the points and make sure suppressor plug caps are ok, before I made screened boxes etc.

21/06/2019 17:31:10

Look up Speeduino on google ,this is a diy engine ecu based on Arduino mega, lots of info on screened cables etc.I have just built one to fit on Fiesta Mk1.

Thread: Waterproof cabinet / box?
13/04/2019 17:58:36

Would a case from a scrapped air con unit be suitable ,they live outside .

Thread: 1.5 hp dc motor
30/12/2018 15:50:14

The control signal will most likely be a pulse width modulated signal, there is plenty of info about this on Google. A PWM signal can be easily created by an Arduino board.

I would connect the motor to a car battery and see if it does anything, should go slowly.

Thread: No December issue of MEW?
29/12/2018 14:27:10

I have not got my digital issue yet.

Thread: Leaking camera batteries
28/12/2018 16:56:48

I would not use brake or carb cleaner ,I would probably try switch contact cleaner. I think brake or carb cleaner would be too aggressive on delicate components.
