Many thanks to all for your replies - much appreciated.

I am rebuilding a 1960's BSA Bantam racer and would like to give an aged look, in keeping with the rest of the bike, to the new foot rests and brake pedal made from 6082T6. All thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thread: hi from Belfast ...

Then you would have enjoyed the classic era when you could stroll through the pits (even at Dundrod), give a rider a push should he need one and sit on the bank with the lads racing by within inches of your legs. For some reason this was later considered unwise and occasionally even dangerous for both rider and spectator. After watching a sidecar outfit leap the hedge at Leathemstown Bridge and land not far from me I realised why.

And it was totally free entertainment. As a racing friend once said, there are few sporting events where the competitors pay to entertain the spectators outside motorcycle racing.

I enjoy the Southern 100 Races - The Friendly Races, which are the nearest you will get to the 'old days'.

Back in the day, ie 1960's I rode an Enfield Bullet, BSA A7 and A10, Triumph 110 and a Rudge Special. Following a big-off I realised that sticking to 4 wheels might be a good idea as I believe every one had a limited amount of luck and mine was about to run out. Still enjoy attending the odd race meeting.

Thread: Scam. Coincidence or worse?

Re ex-directory numbers. I had been ex-d for over 40 years and, on transferring from Talktalk to Now (Sky) some months ago thought that I still was. It appears that Now do not provide that service. Should anyone know better would they tell me.

Some 65 years ago I had my first pillion ride on a NSU Max and have always had a liking for the bike and 'followed' them in local road races in the classic era days. The late Sir John once noted in passing that he had been involved in the conversion of this model to racer spec, ie Sportmax replicas. Anyone else with experience or knowledge of the conversion details?

Perhaps that is why the max power has been reduced from a calculated max of 120hp to 12hp for safety reasons, nevertheless it is an exciting project and so different to most other one off-bikes.

Thread: Letterboxes
30/11/2021 23:03:23

Our letter box has been duct taped up and a mail box screwed on the adjacent wall. Why? A 'box allows the same volume of cold air into the hall as a brick missing from it. You would be amazed at the improvement in comfort. Plus, should we go away there is no evidence of our absence.

Many thanks to all concerned, it is good to know that there are still like minded folk who are more than willing to give help and advice to those in need. Jim

After listening to the first 6 minutes of this ‘Money Box’ prog, explaining the breakdown of my electric bill, I thought of the term ‘scam’.

And if the facts stated in last 8 minutes of this prog are correct, looking forward to an era of ‘cheap’ energy is a pipe dream.
