Thread: Elliott Victoria Turretmill TV1

I had wondered about the shape. A slotter would be nice, anybody got one ?

I too have just acquired a very similar Elliott, a TV2 as it happens. I'm also lost for information. My best guess is it's an early version of the Elliott "Milmor" as shown on lathes.co.uk. but with the head of an "Omnimill"

Thread: Britannia 5" steam dome
17/03/2016 21:53:30

I'm plodding along building a 5" Britannia with the Norman Spink drawings which I aquired in the late 1980s. It has just occured to me that there seems to be no drawing for the steam dome cover which goes on the outside of the cladding. Does anyone have dimensions ? or am I just missing the item becuse mine are old drawings and newer ones have been corrected to include it ? I know that there were plenty of errors, I have found quite a few !

Further to this the boiler drawing (sheet12) shows a steam dome bush on the boiler shell top in dotted line detail but I can find no dimentions for that either, not that the dome is actually used because the steem collector pipe runs below and passed it on the model.

Any help from a previous builder greatly appreciated

Rick.

Thread: Harrison Milling machine
03/12/2013 17:18:04

I have had a Harrison horizontal/vertical milling machine for a few years and really like it. It is a good solid machine with lots of capacity.

It is the standard version not universal shown at this link.

However I only have 2 of 8 of the pick off gears for the gear box to adjust table traverse speed. I fancy making some to replace the missing ones. Does anybody know what the Diametral pitch (or maybe module size) of the gear teeth are so I can source the cutters? They only work in pairs so they may not all be the same DP?

Also if anyone has a gear set can you please measure the O/D of them so I can go looking for suitable stock to make them from. I have the smallest and largest, 17 and 64 teeth. but need to make 22, 29, 385, 43, 52, 59, teeth gears. A photo would be great too.

I know there was a thread on this subject in April 2011 when someone offered to make them but it went no furhur.

Another less important issue is adjustment of the slide ways on the knee, the hand book is very vague, maybe someone has experience of this. Mine judders a bit when winding the knee downwards.

Cheers, Rick.

Thread: Britannia Boiler
24/11/2009 23:01:48
Thanks for the reply. However I have just had a go this evening with the MDF method and it is ok. I made the largest plate, the throat plate, and took it easy with hammering. It took four heating sessions and although I will not need another boiler the 25 mm MDF former and backing plate would easily stand up to another go. I gave it a generous radius of about 1/8" round the edges and beat the 3mm copper over with a small block of steel. 25mm MDF cost only £4.18 at B+Q for a 2' x 4' offcut and was easy to shape too.

Has anybody locally to me (Hull) made a 5" gauge britannia boiler to the Norman Spink design. I need to beg, borrow or hire any flange forming plates you may have made. Alternatively has anybody had sucess by using a couple of thicknesses of thick MDF for a former?
