I think I gained the following information from an enquiry I made of RiteTime Publishing a good while ago, the information is certainly dated and, therefore, needs checking. I don't seem to be able to find a url for them: GSR Electroplating, 4a Kingsmead, Felpham, Bognor Regis, PO22 7BE. T: 01243 826888

Just for the record Springbok's post has just been inserted. Explanation? Motivation? |

Interesting quote from Springbok in Mr Stevenson's post above, but it doesn't seem to me that Springbok has contributed to this thread yet. |

Not only Hemigway and Arceurotrade, I failed to see Chronos and Reeves at the Midland M.E. Show either. Despite a growing metalworking inventory, much of it Sieg, the Axminster stand was disappointingly small. I'm not in business but I'm guessing that RDG and Warco must be rubbing their hands together with glee. A newish van with Myford signage was parked for all to see quite near the entrance, I thought to myself that someone understands the psychology of marketing here. After the closure of the northbound A34 at East Ilsley we arrived late, the car-park was almost full. A friend was running 'Paul the CAD's' stand for the owner, he was kept very busy. |

Thread: Boiler Burners Part 2 |
02/10/2013 22:26:03 |
If you could possibly be interested in butane burners, The Black Art of Butane Burners by Blake & Wilson, page 10 Engineering in Miniature July 2006 might be of interest. I feel sure that articles about burners have appeared in much more recent EIM's. A ribbon burner from here could, perhaps, be adapted. |

It was the heritage weekend two or three weekends ago when many attractions were open free of admission charges. On the way home from the Lake District my wife and I decided to call in here , however we arrived in Bolton at a few minutes to four not realising that the steam museum was about to close. Despite the shortage of time, we were made to feel thoroughly welcome and I was, more or less, given a guided tour by one of the volunteers including being shown the workshop and on our way passing a familiar face, Alf had helped Fred Dibnah a great deal in his endeavours. It also helped that a launch-tyoe inverted vertical engine bore the same name as my wife. I found the Robey Cross Compound to be an impressive engine but it too was now stationary, it's white overalled operator going round making sure that everything was as it should be. I jokingly asked whether it was possible to start it up again, at which point the operator glanced quickly at the large pressure gauge and set it running for me. What a thrill! He gave freely of his time as I must have spent twenty minutes talking to him. Mr Neil Carney, thank you very much indeed. Although, I regarded my donation as significant I daresay it would only have paid for enough gas for the boiler for five minutes or so! With sat/nav I had no difficulty in finding the site but I think the city fathers should erect a few more brown tourist signs for this world class museum. Do visit. |
Thread: Storage and shelving ideas |
15/09/2013 09:39:44 |
I bought these but was reluctant to have them fixed to a wall for space reasons. I therefore made trolleys from 100mm x 50mm wood and castors for a two bay and a single bay. The advertisement shows some significantly heavy weights being supported but their construction is such that I had to buy some galvanized steel herringbone strutting from my local builders' merchant to triangulate them. I have no problems now and it helps me to have them mobile. I do though have the sense to place the very heavy weights on the bottom shelves. |

I think the Victoria is a lovely looking engine and will run slowly and majestically when completed. I am tempted myself and am drawn to the "Double" version - but it's a bit expensive! I too am attracted to the twin/double Victoria but the cost of the castings is prohibitive. Does anyone know of a design for a similarly sized horizontal twin which relies mostly on fabrication? |

I concur with Martin Walsh 1 above. tap-die.com, excellent service and products, although 'am mystified why they don't 'exhibit' at the Ally Pally M.E. show as they are based maybe just two or three miles away and Sandown Park would not exactly be a million miles away from them either. |

My uncle George Johnson Now deceased, served two "tours" of of approximately 30 missions each as a Bombardier air gunner in the battle of Britain, an Australian defending England .......... Sir, As you so rightly say it was the battle of BRITAIN, your uncle was defending rather more than England. Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish etc. inhabitants who lost loved ones might be rather upset by your insinuation. Referring to the UK/GB as England is inaccurate, ignorant and insensitive. |

Thread: Lap steel guitar |
09/04/2013 16:39:01 |
Thanks to your postings I listened/watched more pedal steel guitar solos courtesy of YouTube last night than in the whole of my life. The name Dave Hartley seems to be 'popular'. Always had an interest in country music, never cease to be amazed at the high speed banjo picking of Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs. I thought the Dixie Chicks had considerable talent until, apparently, some kind of political faux pas shunted them into the wilderness. Regrettably there isn't enough on the radio, although, Whispering Bob does his best. Do you know whether the recent country 'festival' at the O2 was recorded for TV and are broadcast dates known?
