I worked with a chap who had one of the very early Turner twins, pre war. The engine ran "backwards" with geared primary drive. I could have bought it. |

Nail a bit of wood to the existing posts and fill with concrete, move the wood and repeat as needed. You can buy sacks of ready mixed dry concrete, just pour in and water. An expensive way to buy concrete but very simple. |
Thread: TDA2030A Audio Amp |

Many years ago a friend of mine made a recording (one of many) .It was remarked that the unusual high pitches on guitar were "intriguing ". Much later a pair of underpants was found inside the sound box wrapped round the pickup. What always amazes me is how live music venues keep the different shows separated. |

NDIT- you are most likely correct, but I thought it was the power, ie. the wattage used by the tool, that was being discussed ? |

I have a 2.5 kw generator, petrol 4stroke, and cheap, rated at3kw max for short time. This runs an electric chainsaw no probs once warmed up. Chainsaw is rated 1.8kw. It is important to keep all the governor connections etc. clean and adjusted. A 500w 2stroke genny runs drills etc. no probs. |

Reminded of a man I was talking to a few weeks ago-- He asked me if I knew where to get lead shot. He needed it for some sound system he was building, had to pour the shot into the speaker stacks to get balance. he then went into his set -up at great length, most of which I didn't understand, his amp etc. etc. Turns out he lived in a 12ft caravan. |
Thread: What quality vs cost considerations drives your buying? |
13/02/2018 14:06:33 |
I buy stuff I need, when I need it. I bought an expensive battery drill because I had to build a roof, it did the job well and I now have a decent drill. I also bought a very cheap battery drill at the same time just to avoid changing bits, this also has lasted. I use it more than the good one just because it is much lighter. I have a very expensive socket laying about, bought for a job I can't even remember, must have been worth it at the time. |

Gathering data on what we have in the shed, sell to some lowlife ? Just joking. |

Plenty of "scrap" about which is of use for models and real life stuff. Some egs. - plumbing fittings, bed frame, CI lamp base, old weights. This morning my wife threw out a coffee filter thingy, she saw rubbish, I saw a con. rod for displacer on hot air engine. |
Thread: What did you do Today 2018 |

Michael- Run the shredder in reverse, might not clear it but will help-slackens off the ribbons. I have an oil drum with holes and burn all that stuff. |

I have no great problem with most systems, but I do think the differing systems is one reason for some of the big mistakes that are sometimes made by politicians and managers. Note I did not include engineers. |

Yes, literally glued. I asked her afterwards what glue and what, if any, hardener but she had not noticed and did not seem very interested. Today the silencer fell of my car. Think I will go to bed 'til March. |

Must be the week for falling over in the bathroom- not me but my wife. I was up in the loft fixing a broken pipe, went into w/shop to solder new bits and heard a crash. Wife on floor in bathroom, blood all over. Turns out no real harm done, bad cut on scalp and bruising. Had to drive about ,cos docters etc.a bit short supply round here. ended up in the Broch for gluing together the wounds. Mike will know what I mean. Turns out she was up the ladder checking on what I was doing- a lesson learnt I hope. |
Thread: Watch powered by body heat |
01/02/2018 14:02:40 |
My watch simply needs a little knob twiddled for about 10 seconds every two days. Keeps time ok, good enough for catching a train. |
Thread: Recommend T handle metric key set |
01/02/2018 13:59:30 |
I prefer " proper" hex keys, ie. one long one short side. Set for imperial and one for metric, not a lot of money for decent quality. I also have a set of hex keys for a 1/4" socket set which do all the heavy stuff. What make ? can't remember, but never had a breakage. |

I can't post for sale ads. because I don't have a landline phone, at least the last time I looked. Got rid of bt and saved a lot of hastle and money. I.ve been on this forum for years but I do understand the reasoning behind it. |
Thread: This weeks mystery Object / Tool ?? |

A joke mousetrap. Having spent all morning in the loft trying to shift the little ******s I may be biased. |
Thread: Making a cam |

I recently had to drill offset holes in some brass. About 4mm offset in 16mm dia rod. I used the 3 jaw with packing at one jaw. Just did it by trial and error, could not remember that formula, did not need great accuracy but worked well. However I thought the set up did not seem very stable and think that a bigger dia. might be a bit dodgy. Depends on chuck size I suppose, mine is 100mm dia. |
Thread: Recommended Shed suppliers |
26/01/2018 14:56:42 |
Build your own, not difficult or hard work. Concrete base easiest and best, will not take very long to dry out. For a small shed 2" thick on a plastic sheet, make the edges thicker , maybe 4". Try to find used timber locally, and used double glazed windows. Roof best in insulated corrugated sheets, seconds are good enough. With that budget you'll end up with a palace. A good battery drill saves a lot of hard work. |
Thread: Motor speed control on AC motor? |
26/01/2018 12:04:10 |
As suspected my old forge blower is a cummutator type motor, can't get into the controler as it's rusted up. It has been said that this system is only for low-torque motors, how does a mains drill control speed, most have good torque at low speed ? |
