Ref. Plasma's windvane 'Tomb', aircraft are, obviously ideal subjects. I have just completed a similar item to give to our neighbours, who have been absolutely splendid in doing shopping for us. I asked the lady of the house whether she preferred a windvane or a desk version and she couldn't decide - so I did both. Ideally, if the windvane version prevails, the sub-base should be removed and the attachment made directly.
Today's Quiz question - What is the lady called? rgds Bill |

Part of the lockdown anti-boredom 'activity' has been watching a number of boat-building Youtube videos. Almost all rip their frames and planking from very large milled pieces and I would have thought the offcuts from these would have been ideal for the repair needed. Local boatyard, perhaps? rgds Bill |

I'm with Mike Poole and pgk and one or two others in viewing their workshop contents. Put simply, it's all STUFF!!! I see it as very odd that outlay on this hobby is regarded by many as quite different from what they spend on (for instance) holidays. That would be spent and would have offered (possibly!) a short period of enjoyment and the outlay would be gone. Workshops and machinery provide continuous enjoyment (and frustration) and still that is not sufficient unto itself for some, there is this additional wish to recoup outlay. Indeed. for quite a few the monetary value outweighs the usefulness, or otherwise, of the machines! Do golfers tot up the cost of their clubs and shoes and funny trousers as a measure of their hobby enjoyment? Do gardeners worry over who is going to inherit their latest ride-on mower? At 85, I'm never going to be anything other than a workshop 'bodger' (not the chair making variety) and I buy what I can afford - mostly second (or more)hand and get huge enjoyment, frustration, relaxation and hypertension from 'messing about' in the 'shed'. There are several (by ME standards) 'valuable' machines and accessories and they will be available, for the taking, to any a of few similarly interested friends who can be bothered to collect them. The rest will give a shed clearance man a good luck day. One thing is for certain sure - I'm not going to be concerned! Such arrangements as are necessary have been taken care of - see below (2nd class single, of course) rgds Bill Edited By Cornish Jack on 12/05/2020 22:18:34 |

Undoubtedly much on-line watching taling place at the moment. One site which I find particularly informative (very picture intensive) in 'One Guy from Barlick' - **LINK** Small shed, well equipped and excellent basic procedures demonstrated by a 'hands-on' old-style fitter. Lots to see. rgds Bill |

Danny M - if you haven't already, I would highly recommend doing some research on the role of Polish airmen during WW2, particularly the pilots of 303 Squadron. Quite inspirational and eye-opening for the recorded fact that the highest scoring fighter Squadron in the Battle of Britain was, by far, 303. They were exceptional pilots, highly motivated and individualistic. They ignored the RAF's gunnery tactics of firing at 400 yards range, instead, closing to the highly dangerous, but more successful, 100 yds before opening fire. Their role as a major factor in winning the battle of air supremacy was given the most disgraceful treatment at war's end with Churchill giving way to Stalin's demands on Poland's future. Ther was NO Polish contingent allowed in the Victory parade and their sacrifices on our, and their, behalf have been almost entirely ignored. rgds Bill |

Mike Poole - your Dad's logbook page features an airfield in Northern Burma (Myanmar)- Myiktila. I flew in there in the middle 60s - probably little changed from your Dad's time, other than the operating conditions.! A fascinating country, like so much of our one-time spheres of influence, potential wasted rgds Bill |

Thank you Steve and Clive. Clive, it sounds (pun intended) that it's time to get Audacity fired up. rgds Bill |

Thank you Rob - I'm using Wave Pad Sound Editor - a 'freebee' which has a reasonable range of 'bells and whistles'. The end product is a compilation, starting with a mic input intro and 'ripped' music tracks interspersed with spoken exercise instructions. The separate elements are then combined into one mp3 file which is burned onto disc. I have Audacity available as an alternative editor and hope to shortly receive a Tascam dp004 to 'play' with. The track idents/numbering would be 'nice to have' function on the finished discs. rgds Bill |

Until recently, SWMBO has run a weekly 'exercise to music' (MEDAU) class in the village hall. During the lockdown she has offered postage cost only CDs to her 'flock' to allow continuation at home. I was selected from a long list of volunteers (not) to 'engineer' the product! Pretty straightforward to compile the speech and music mix and easy to adjust the timing intervals between them. What I don't understand is how to incorporate track identification numbering (as given in commercial CDs) so as to allow the listener to quickly select specific tracks/points of interest. Can anyone assist, please? rgds Bill |

Well said (posted), Neil - particularly the tribute to Jason. You forgot to mention that, quite obviously, Jason is a nom-de-plume for three people. It's just not possible for any one person to get through the various activities he presents rgds Bill |

I have a similar stage 'remnant' from 30 -ish years ago! I didn't make allowance in the 'block' size for the engine bearers and ended up 'betwixt and between'. You appear to have separate bearers - are they attached and, if so, what was the method. please? Iust might be enthused to try again!! rgds Bill |

Spent some years working part-time in a clock and watch shop. We made a sizeable income repairing or replacing watches which had been fitted with 'bargain' 357/LR44s etc. They invariably started to 'salt' long before losing power and the resultant corrosion did the damage. Unfortunately, the average 'punter' cannot verify quality of sources so the fake batches are readily available. The 2032s/2025s etc appear to be less prone to faking or poor quality. rgds Bill |

Why does this cause surprise? Those who favour personal wealth above any other aim in life, operate happily in the 'dog-eat-dog' regime of capitalism. This mode has served them well for so long that they have forgotten that 'what goes up must come down' dictum. They now rush to the hated, tax-generated, National coffers to demand, plead, insist on State aid. I would suggest that 'it's a funny old world' were it not for nausea the present 'trough invasion' induces. I note, from today's 'You and yours' programme, that the potential advantages of the pandemic might be garnered by an entrepreneurial homeopathic procedure to protect against the virus ... an injection offered at the bargain price of £198.00. ... never miss an opportunity! rgds Bill |
Thread: Aircraft Guidance Lights, Or? |

For helo night flying into unlit LGs we used portable 'glide slope guidance' systems to indicate above, on and below g/s. but those changed with the relative position of the helo - not what you are seeing. There may well be new gear for similar purposes but the confoguration sounds odd. If you want the best and most reliable explanation (assuming it's not classified!) post your query on the Rotorhead or Military Aviation sub-forums on Pprune.org. rgds Bill |
