Thread: This website is working very slow today, Anyone else having problems?
10/05/2012 19:57:52

Thank you Clive.

Should have checked the linked site. Your adaptor appears to be a more sophisticated version of the Iplate (which they include in their write-up) The advantage with your version appears to be that you can dispense with the ADSL filters.

Q for Clive -

Is your adaptor plate similar to the "I-Plate"? I ask, because I had to fit an IPlate to get my d/l speed above 700 ks! It did work - about a 30% increase noted but it was a much simpler fit than the mod you have described. Still bumbling along at 1 to 2 Mbs and would be happier to be able to bump it up a bit. The IPlate was recognised as being very much individual dependent - some got an improvement, some nothing. Do the same caveats apply to your device?

John - Bogstandard2 ... aaaarrrrgggghhhh !! 38Mbs!!! are you lodging with your ISP?laughlaugh

Thread: Digital caliper connector leads?
05/05/2012 11:32:12

Thank you, Wotsit, LJ1, Neil and Sid.

Looks like the soldering route is favourite ... BIG magnifier and, maybe, some 'Scottish Milk' to steady the hand!! I've managed to find a site with the pin-outs for the cheapo versions so will proceed with caution!

Thank you Skarven and CoalBurner.

The LMS item looks very much like what is needed but (Sod's Law!) the critical connector is the one at the top right of the photo and not clearly visible (to my rheumy old eyes!) Also problematical is that LMS are in the States,so not quite so accessible.

Graeme - I, similarly, have the soldering iron but not only lack the other two 'ingredients' but don't have the 'what connects to what' details!! The lead I have at the moment has been savaged in two places and continuity checks are a bit inconclusive.frown

G'day all

Does anyone know if these leads are available as spares and, if so, from whom? The leads are the ones which plug into the sockets on the 'top' of most digi-calipers with four built-in connector strips.

TIA

Thread: Methelated spirit blow lamp.

The only pure meths blow lamp I've come across is the one mentioned by Ian S C (two cylindrical tanks) It is the Valtock and I've got a couple lurking around somewhere.Only recently found the operating instructions but haven't yet used either.

Thread: Lock Problems
28/04/2012 11:45:30

Neil - Locks and WD40 are a definite no-no. If you want to free it up(and keep it free) get some 'puff powder' (graphite powder). Putting WD40 into locks ensures that they WILL seize fairly soon thereafter!!

Thread: Naerok bandsaw
23/04/2012 15:10:02

Just an update - got an email reply first thing this morning!! (very impressive!) Telephoned them this afternoon and it appears that they have had 'tyres' on back order since January and will advise when available. They also have a mix of blades available. Don't know whether I shall be successful but full marks to their service for helpful responses ... no connection etc. , of course.

Thank you Clive and, particularly, Bazyle.

The Clarke version is a straight clone of the Naerok and your ref. gives a manual with component listing and diagrams. It also provides Tel. contact details. Just tried that number and they are closed on Saturdays but will try again on Monday. From the manual write-up, it would seem that tyres are avaiable and recommended to refit in threes.

I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks again, Chris and particular thanks to wotsit - that solution appeals greatly to my Scrooge streak!!wink Don't have an unemployed cow hide but the muscle relaxation following retirement has left me with a number of "shrunken" belts!!sad I shall experiment

G'day all.

Having (fleetingly) rummaged through the recesses of what is (laughingly ) called my workshop, I found a Naerok 3-wheel bandsaw and disc sander. Useful bit of kit but checking it over shows the 'tyres' on two of the wheels to be breaking away. I had considered trying to glue on rubber replacements but memory says these things should be 'crowned' to keep the blade running true. Can anyone suggest either a source for replacements or a (hopefully simple) remedy, please?

Thread: Hegner help!
14/04/2012 17:25:27

Thank you KWIL. That could be most useful. Just an update - I have at last managed to cut wood again!!surprise No idea what caused the improvement, although I stripped the main bits, oiled the bearings and took great care lining up the blades in the clamps. Still managed to break two more blades but that particular job has been completedsmiley

Thanks to all

Thank you Keith and Martin.

Never really had a close look at the 'workings' but have assumed ("Don't assume, CHECK!" that the return arm is the top one and the drive is direct to the lower attachment. If so, the top arm APPEARS to be free to move and the blade tension adjuster has been set to give a nice 'ping' (technical term!) when tapped. The basic principle of these things is such that I wouldn't have expected much to go wrong. I don't have a handbook for it (bought 2ndhand) so don't have a reference for problem areas. The blade holders are rectangular steel clamps which have 'wedges' to seat on the ends of the arms. Possibly I'm clamping the blades slightly off vertical and inducing stress? Will try again.

G'day all.

I have a Hegner scroll saw which hasn't been used for a few years. Needed to do some 'brown stuff' cutting and purchased a couple of packs of Sandvik blades. So far, I have broken SIX of them and not yet cut any wood!!frown The blades snap each time on powering up the machine. Has anyone any thoughts on possible remedies. I have used the saw in the past with no problems and the blade attachments are pretty basic. The blades are metal cutting but, since they haven't actually come into contact with anything, I don't see that as an issue.

Thread: Why not have a profile?

Re. your PS

Interesting that you checked my profile but failed to note my complimentary close!!

To make it simple -

RGDS
BILL, NORFOLK , ENGLANDwink

PS - just been to check my profile details and, as I assumed, the boxes for County and Country REMAIN ticked as they have been for some year or more. I have no idea why this info doesn't appear but, strange as it may seem, I don't check my profile details very often 'cos i know who I am and where I am ... most of the time!surprise

How VERY odd!! Not wanting to put location on your profile ... one must suppose that these members don't ever make on-line purchases or have any deliveries made to their addresses - either of which will give access to vastly more information to vastly more people than simply appending County and Country. Just a thought ... how does one avoid giving all this personal info to MHS when subscribing????surprise

Thread: How Would You makes this?

John (Bogs2) - those wheels are, apparently, used for imprinting patterns on cloth for cutting. Presumably available at most haberdashers - if such a thing exists nowadays!!
