Neil, I have a Halfords version that must be at least 10 years old and looks almost like the Extreme, similar nose and body style, and it does all I require of it.

Gentlemen, A slight aside but you maybe interested to read a book called "Empire of the Clouds" by James Hamilton-Paterson ISBN 978-0-571-24795-0 it is a very good read regarding British Aviation from the late 40's to the present day and tells about the politics, designers, test pilots, military use and airlines and finally the total decline of manufacturing of complete aircraft to today where we make bits of aircraft, I've just finished my copy so if anybody is interested in reading it then I would be more than happy to post it on. Gentlemen, twenty five years ago I volunteered at the Imperial War Museum Duxford working on the Museums B17G " Mary Alice", we had a member who was a pilot for British Airways and he also drove with the family coach business. The gentleman organised a visit to the BA hangers at Heathrow through his work so we all met at Duxford for the Coach trip to Heathrow and when we got close he said he had a surprise and took us to Air Canada's bonded warehouse where we were told to wait in the coach until he came back for us, we were taken throught the building to a grass strip right next to the runway and told to stay put and look left where we saw Concord turning onto the runway apply reheat and come thundering down the runway towards us, at this point camera film was being used like it was going out of fashion, as she got to where we were standing she rotated and some where in the loft I have the picture of this point, after that a wander around the hangers was a slight anti climax

Thread: 3 phase wiring anyone ?. |
19/10/2013 20:20:34 |
The red plug should read L1,L2,L3 these are the three phases then you should have the Earth pin ( the largest pin) and neutral N, this pin and one of the phases will give you 240 AC assuming the L1,L2,L3 have 420 to 440 volts AC across any pair of the L1 to L3. The black plug appears to have an earth pin and the three phases as Neutral N is not always used. Martin P |

Gentlemen, I went with a mate today and arrived around eleven oclock, it was busy but comfortable, it did get busier but if I couldnt get to a stand I went else where and then went back. Didnt see any crap particularly as someones crap is somebody elses gold, picked up the bits I needed from J&B tools and RDG and looked at some lovely models especially the gas turbine locomotive running on the track outside, my Diabeties gave me a turn a lunch time, mainly because of a very early breakfast, so went outside and found a chair to sit and eat my sandwiches felt better and went back inside. Spoke to a gentleman on the Blackheath club stand about one of the boats on the stand and when I described a similar boat with a coal fired boiler he said I was describing a boat by a Mr Perman, I told him correct as I was one of his Grandson's, it was nice to know my Grandfather is still remembered. a great day.

Thread: Inverter Wiring |
12/10/2013 14:35:15 |
Neil, Sorry I should have been more specific, I didnt say where to put the EM Stop, I work for an Italian company and we make very large industrial washing machines and Automation, robotic bottle washing equipment, for hospitals, when I say large you could put a small car inside, we use Siemens inverters to drive pumps, extraction fans etc. After the inverter we have the motor contactor which, if the EM is pressed, drops out to stop the pump, the inverter is also stopped should the inverter fail to stop the contactor cannot run the motor. Machine building regulations doesnt allow EM stops to be connected through PLC software stops because of the possibilities of glitches that can happen with PLC's etc. Martin P |
12/10/2013 12:10:33 |
Gentlemen, I do apologise if I'm about to teach granny to suck eggs but please remember that any EM Stop has to be wired through a latched relay so that when it is operated it kills the motor relay that then needs a proper reset, this is to stop you reseting the EM stop and allow the motors to start unexspectedly. Gentlemen, I have been in engineering all of my working life and have been involved in Robotics, CNC machine tools in all forms and various other sections of mechanical/electrical engineering, I have only been reading MEW for about three years and enjoy the magazine immensely as regardless of the topic there is always something interesting to learn even though I may have done it a different way previously, if I have any sort of critisism then there is more articles of CNC that I would want but you cant please everybody al the time. I've never understood why somebody would want a CNC machine at home because 95% of any work required would be one offs and a total waste of an individuals time. Martin P

Fuel injector pipe full size tends to be small bore thick walled, I think about 3 mm, what size of tube are you using, do you have any leakages that are stopping the pressure build up and is there air in the system. Martin P |
24/08/2013 13:11:08 |
Gentlemen, The Lister engines I have played with and working for Lucas CAV I was always led to believe that the pump has to be timed to the engine, the pump determines the amount of fuel, I know from volunteering at an engine museum in Wales that they were given an Allen diesel in kit form and when they built it they found they were missing the timing disc and had a lot of trouble trying to find the optimum timing point, bit like to advanced or retarded. Thread: Drilling 316 stainless |
23/08/2013 18:19:11 |
I agree with all of the above, I work with machines built with 316 and we find that when drilling with a hand drill you need slow rpm but a lot of pressure, if you want to drill large holes then go up in stages to the finished size, I use rocol tapping compound when drilling and tapping also.

Neil, At the top of the body is a threaded cap and a lock nut inside which is a strong spring, the spring applies pressure to the needle which has been lapped into its seat sealing off the nozzle end, when the pump applies pressure to the oil this lifts the needle which over comes the spring and lifts it to allow the fuel to leak past and out of the holes in the nozzle body as a spray. depending what the engine builder requires determines the type of nozzle and how many holes that are in it to produce the spray to help run the engine.
