We knew them as Gun drills back in the eighties but on Mollarts website today they refer to them as deep hole drilling machines.

Mollart machine tools, that's a name from the past, I used to repair their deep hole drilling machine back in the eighties as a machine tool fitter.

They look like deep hole drills, the hole in the end for pumping the coolant into the hole to clear the swarf and cool the drilling, funnily enough I have just written a short piece on Archdale deep hole drilling rigs for another magazine, the company I worked for used to drill 2 - 3 mm holes into fuel injector bodies for about 4 inches. I have a suspicion that eventually the subject will deteriorate into 'how did you progress (not how did you get on, that would be too simple) on your wedding night'.
that wont happen with me, such a long time ago I cant remember Martin P |

Jason, Are you building an Amanco Aircooled, the trolley is very similar to a full size one I had a few years ago, I bought a Lister D sat on a trolley, a mate called round and said that I had a genuine Amanco trolley so it went on EBay and fetched me £200 which meant I got the engine for -£30 the only difference between your trolley and mine was mine had H section engine bearers instead of wood |

I used to be able to pick up pens with my toes but the Nueropathy put pay to that, I have trouble with power tools lock buttons and if I can I tend to turn the electric drill upside down, I can eat with a fork and spoon in my left hand but put a knife in my right and I become a demented moron, no control at all. When I was in the Air Training Corp on the firing range with a .303 I used to drive the instructors round the bend as I had the rifle in my left shoulder and used to put my left hand over the top to operate the bolt to load a round, the instructors tried to get me to put the rifle in my right shoulder but gave up and found it safer to stand in front of me when I was using the rifle right handed. Gentlemen, Whilst reading another thread I saw mention of somebody being left handed and wondered who is that way inclined on here, what difficulties you have had to overcome or equipment you have had to modify to make your day easier, everyday life is designed around right handed people and anything to help us awkward buggers costs money. I was born left handed and have remained so all my life, even though schools did there damndest to force me to change, the odd rapped knuckle on my left hand for instance. As an apprentice machines were right handed, like the saddle wheel of a lathe or using verniers or micrometers because the coordination of my right hand could not cope, writing I had to change because you couldn't see what you had written because your hand got in the way. When I started as a machine tool fitter I found that I could get my hand and arm in places that the right handers couldn't when repairing machines. Even after sixty one years of being awkward I still find something that makes me think first before I do it. Martin P

Gordon, PJK, There is anther way depending on the sizes required, I recently had a puncture on my electric buggy and when I checked the other tyres decided to buy four, a search on the internet found tyres with infill with a rubber compound which means they dont need air and hold there shape so no more punctures, you do need split rims to fit them though.

This car has three engines, the jet to power the car up to a certain speed the rocket to assist through 1000 mph and a ford cosworth whose sole job is to power a pump to supply fuel to the rocket, no drive goes through the wheels.

I,ve got an ALDI special with what I assume is a belt for wood but it does what I want with tidying my metal jobs, cheap but suits my needs.
