Thread: Suds pump
18/07/2012 20:40:59

Billy,

Sorry should have said, one pump has a very weak mixture of Bicarbonate of Soda and water and the other is a very weak mixture of salt and water. The water can either be RO or city water depending on the customers needs and the tube wall thickness is 2.5mm.

Thread: Suds pump
18/07/2012 18:16:17

Gentlemen,

I service equipment using Perastaltic pumps which run for 6 seconds every 6 mins 24/7 365 days a year and the silicon tubes last at most eighteen months, if the pump is not used for a period of time the pressure from the rollers on the silicon causes the bore to stick together and they cant be recovered. I wouldnt use one for pumping suds.

Thread: Annoying Adverts

Gentlemen,

I have just read through this thread for the first time, I've also set up " compatability view settings" but I am still getting adverts covering quite a bit of the threads including this one.

Thread: How did you ..................... Job back ground
14/07/2012 18:23:00

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your responses, I enjoyed reading all of your history's and it seems to me that most of us already have some sort of back ground of engineering before we took up the hobby. Its also interesting to see how varied the subject of engineering itself is, the amount of useful experience is worth bottleing.

Thread: Chuck change - what were you taught?
11/07/2012 17:40:48

Mike,

As an apprentice I was always taught to first place a piece of timber on the bed ways so as to not damage the bedways should the chuck slip and drop from your hands. my chuck is held on by bolts and relies on a register and I loosen the bolts and rock the chuck with the chuck key. I have also center popped the chuck and back plate to make sure it goes back in the same place, more for piece of mind. Do not use a hammer as there is always a possibility of Brunelling the bearing tracks of the spindle which would show up in your machining.

Thread: How did you ..................... Job back ground

Michael,

Am I right in thinking you work at the Cowley plant then, I spent many an hour repairing and servicing the ABB robots before it all got shipped back to Longbridge when BMW took over Cowley to build the MINI. I also enjoyed metalwork and Tech Drawing at school.

Mike,

I remember George Kingsbury, Birmingham, I worked for Lucas CAV and we had machine tools rebuilt by them.

Gentlemen,

After reading a few threads recently I'm curious how you got into Model Engineering and what your job back grounds are/were to see if there is a connection.

I'm a time served machine tool fitter who now does service engineering work, over the years I have managed to work on/repair/install most types of machine tool, I have worked with industrial robots including programming and my current job is working with large industrial washing machines.

My interest in Model Engineering came from my Grandfather who was a self taught engineer working with coal fired boilers powering model ships and traction engines. I dont do model engineering as such but I do make/repair parts for my hobby which is the restoration of Petrol/Paraffin Stationary Engines and I run a classic car.

I would love to know your reasons.

Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for your help, I shall find a piece of silver steel of the correct size and make the reamer for him.

Gentlemen,

A friend of mine is making a new arm for a flick magneto and he has to put a tapered hole in its centre to match the tapered shaft on the magneto, would it be possible to make a hand reamer to cut the taper after he has step drilled the hole.

Thanks in anticipation,

Thread: Deleting Adverts so that posts can be read
18/05/2012 16:49:54

Gentlemen,

As the instigator of this thread may I say thank you all for your views and help, apart from view/style/ no view nothing else appears to work. My Netbook is not six months old yet and is upto date with the software etc I use IE 8 which I have never had a problem with and I use plenty of other forums with adverts with no problems so it cant be the computer. In the future if the problem shows iself again I just wont read the thread.

Thanks again,

Martin P

Can I use adblock with Internet explorer, I dont want to change as IE works perfectly happily with every other forum I post to which also have adverts on them.
