Thread: Back Issues cont'

Many thanks John for the link I have ordered the magazine and await delivery, thanks again for your help. John

Hello everyone,

Further to my post of yesterday asking if any one could lend me a back issue I realised too late that folk may not be prepared to take the chance that their copy may not be returned so I will try a different approach. Is there anyone out there who would be prepared to copy Part 3 of Anthony Mount's instructions on building Benson's Vertical Engine, it is contained in Volume 177 (1996) issue No. 4024 I shall be happy to reimburse any cost involved, Many thanks, John

Thread: Lang Bridge Double Diagonal Engine
16/02/2016 19:23:06

Good evening to you both, many thanks for your very helpful replies to my question re the Langbridge engine.

I had not picked up on the fact that one side of the eccentric rod was permanently fixed to the strap as you have shown me. I have now remedied the matter and the engine is running very sweetly on a quite small amount of air. It now remains for me to make a number of finishing touches to and paint it up, when it is complete I will put some photos up to show the result. I had spotted your engine Ramon on the net and watched it running beautifully, I offer my congratulations it looks well, I can only hope mine will look as good. again many thanks to you both for you help.

I am building a model of the above engine based on photo's from an article in a recent issue of M.E. by Roger Backhouse. I have a problem in getting the eccentric to stay horizontal, it tends to drop on one side in line with the valve rod.

If I hold the strap horizontally between my finger and thumb the engine runs well but as soon as it is released it will drop and stop he engine. I am thinking it may be caused by the position of the lugs to which the eccentric straps are connected, the question is should the lugs be 90 degrees to each other from a point in the centre of the crankshaft. If anyone can assist in helping solve the problem I will be very grateful, many thanks. John

Thread: Indexes or Indices ?
10/09/2014 07:54:32

Good Morning Dias & Neil,

Thank you both for your assistance in solving the problem with the indexes. Very pleased to say I have downloaded them all again and they all now work. It's now down to me to learn to use them to the best advantage, thanks again all.

Hello Dias,

I've just downloaded the E I M programme again, to my desktop rather than in the file with the other 2 mags. sadly the result is the same. Is there another link I can use? At the moment the link I have was forwarded to me by Neil. I'm afraid that Computer skills are not as good as they should be so perhaps I am doing something wrong somewhere without realising it.

Regards, John

Hello Dias,

John

Hello Dias,

I've just had a sudden thought re this thread, The copy of your programs that I am using was downloaded from a link provided by Neil, he seems to have the same problem. Can you provide a link for me to use in case this is the cause of the problem? many thanks,

John

Thanks Dias, I echo Neil's remarks and wish you luck.

Hello Dias,

Thank you for getting in touch, my apologies for the slow reply I have only now had a chance to do so.

The Index in question is E.I.M. I have downloaded all three sets of Files and placed them in a separate folder. M.E. and M.E.W. both open O.K. and work well, but when I try the E.I.M index I get the message;

Sqlite 3DS cross_issue_date : SQLITE_ MISUSE_unable to open database file.

Press o.k.to ignore & risk data corruption.

Press cancel to close.

Hi , sorry about the last line in the previous mail it seem to have added itself to my signature.

Hello Neil,

Thanks for the info, I have down loaded it for all three magazines two of which open successfully and are very useful, the third however won't open, I get the following message; SQLite 3DS cross issue date SQLITE MISUSE unable to open database file.

Haven't a clue what it means or how to get over it, was hoping Dias Costa or any one else

John for that matter might see the query and point me in the right direction.

Good evening Alan & Les,

Thanks for your replies, I followed the link and found Colin's site, unfortunately I can't find the Magazine search engine link it appears to be missing from the site unless I not looking in the right place, any help would be appreciated.

There was some while back a proposed set of indexes from a gentleman named Dacosta but can't remember what happened to that.

Good evening all,

I would be grateful if anyone out there could point me in the direction of any Indexes relating to Model Engineering Magazines. I used to use Colin Usher's site, but when I changed over to Windows 7 I found it impossible to access the files as I think it was designed for XP. Also it now is somewhat short of recent years. Any suggestions would be most welcome, many thanks.

Thread: Running Down Tool
26/03/2014 19:14:57

Many thanks to all those who replied to my question, I have one which I made way back very similar to the one in ME and also the one described by Peter Spenlove-Spenlove. However the one lurking in the depths of my mind (a dark place indeed) looked something like a spotfacing tool but with a hole through rather than a centre pin. Again many thanks for the help extended.

I seem to remember seeing, either in one of the Magazines or on here someone describing a tool to reduce the diameter of round material for instance to reduce 5/16 round to take a quarter inch thread. Can anyone offer any help on such a tool? I should be most grateful, many thanks.
