Many thanks for the replies received. To be clear the motor was removed from its fridge many years ago long before global warming was an issue and has been waiting for a possible use to arrive. Note is taken also of the good advice re use of a pressure gauge etc. Many thanks for the help received.

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a spare fridge motor which I want to reuse as a small compressor. There are three pipes from it, one of which was attached to the thermostat, one is crimped off (which was used I believe to allow filling with refrigerant) and the third one is open. My question is which would be the proper one to use as the output as both have air coming from them. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, Many thanks,

Hello Micheal,

Thank you for your link re the Murday clock which I found most interesting, especially as I hadn't realised until I saw it that it had a transparent glass Dial, as in the one I made to John Wildings design I had incorporated a dial made from perspex. Thanks again for the link.

Many thanks for the replies re the clock wiring all of which were helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I have not yet had a chance to check things out in the workshop and probably won't be able to much before Friday, so, fingers crossed I shall be able to sort it out then.

Puzzling over the correct wiring of the coils into the circuit of the above design, an answer to the following query would be most helpful.

There are 4 wires from the two coils, which is the correct way to connect the wires to the supply, in series or parallel with each other.

This looks like a silly question to be asking but I cant make up my mind which would give me the most powerful result in operating the mechanism.

Good Morning all, Thank you to everyone for their very kind help and comments re my PC problem, I have taken the advice of those who recommended Libre Office and downloaded the programme, as mentioned it is very similar to Microsoft's Office and will be most suitable for my needs, again many thanks and what an amazingly helpful group of people you all are. Good afternoon all, I have a problem with my PC in that having reset it to an earlier time I have lost my early version of Microsoft Office. Unfortunately windows 10 will not allow me to load from my disc as the version is no longer supported. They tell me I can download windows 365 for an annual fee of around £ 60.00 which I don't really want to get into. The question is has any one on the forum any suggestions as to what I can do as I cannot writte anything or produce spread sheets or documents, any help would be much appreciated, thanks. John.

Good evening gentlemen, I am looking for a suggestion on the best way to supply power to drive a 12 volt windscreen wiper motor other than using a car battery. I'm thinking along the lines of using maybe something like one of those 3 pin plug type gadgets that are used for small electronic gismos, but really have no idea whether this is feasible, any suggestions or other ideas would be most appreciated and gratefully received. many thanks, John

Hi Neil, Thanks for your reply, I have now found the article it was in the February No..251 issue. Can't understand how I couldn't see it. Far too many Birthdays I suspect. Re starting a new line one line lower e.g for a new paragraph the enter key just takes me back to the start.

Ha, I've sussed it out I think a space after the last letter or full stop is first needed, before using the return key. I​'m using Windows 10 on a desktop, Incidentally M.E.W is an excellent mag. congratulations and many thanks for your help.

Good morning all, I am looking for an article by Michael Cox published recently concerning a device to apply forward movement to a drill grinding jig. Hi Mike, I have made(about 25 years ago) and was very pleased with the result, Alan Timmins long case clock and would recommend it . It is quite conventional in design and still keeps good time, I think the book is still available from people such as John Wilding and Ian Cob. I have no experience to offer on the others that you refer to, but no doubt others on here will be able to advise. regards, John

Bearingboys also do them but including postage they still work out at over £ 21 ea. Whilst I am on here, the trouble I have on the 918 lathe is that, on the lowest speed the belt turns over in its v groove when the lathe is running and then eventually becomes very misshapen, any one any suggestions?
