On the 3" scale Marshall traction engine the Pressure gauge feed is taken from the manifold on boiler top that supplies the injector and water lifter valves as in picture.

Thread: Model tug boat plans |
29/11/2020 16:16:19 |
Bob, At 27 inch length and 8 inch beam a plan for a boat that size should be full size, I have built two tug boats at 42 inch in length and the plans were full size, with a tug boat there are a lot of complex lines and sections in the hull form, I wouldn't want the extra work in scaling up the drawing before I could start building. There must be plans for tug boats that are drawn full size. MichaelR. |

A search around your local plant hire company's should find what you require such as a Mini Digger or Micro Digger, which should fit your access, some are electric powered. Mike. Edited By MichaelR on 26/09/2020 19:04:39 Edited By MichaelR on 26/09/2020 19:16:18 |

Thread: Reminiscences |

A couple of my boyhood memories that will give Health and Safety a "bad do", going to the local chemist shop to buy ether to make fuel for model air craft engines, you had to take your own bottle which was usually a empty lemonade bottle and travelling on the bus with that bottle of ether in my pocket. Then there was the glass cased wet acid accumulator for our wireless it was my job to take it to the shop for recharging and bring a fully charged one back in exchange, they had a carrying handle fitted which I slung on my bike handle bars. Happy Days. Michael. |

Thread: Which one to build |
10/06/2020 15:03:43 |
John, When I built my Durham & NY traction engine I finished and completed it on the workbench, I and my better half lifted the engine off the bench and onto the floor, what I will say I couldn't lift that engine on my own I can't say how heavy the engine is but it's manageable. MichaelR

Have a look at the 2" scale Durham & North Yorkshire traction engine a nice size, powerful, and easy to manage. MichaelR |

Thread: Mystery casting |

Looks like a Uniflow cylinder casting with the exhaust ports in the bores, going by the size it could be for the Atkinson Uniflow steam wagon by a Ray Prime I think the model was serialised in Engineering in Miniature. And there again I could be wrong. MichaelR |
Thread: LBSC 3.5" "Maisie" - steam regulator valve assembly |
02/06/2020 10:32:42 |
It's many years since I made my Masie but from memory. To remove the regulator rod take the regulator handle off, and unscrew the bush that the rod goes through and you can then draw the rod with the bush out, the rod has a stop collar behind the bush and a square section on the rod at the regulator valve end, the linkage at the valve can then be removed.
