Francis, thankyou for the reply

That was my first thought but a local engraver wantged nedarly £70 to do the job

After thinking about it I would mean more to me to do it myself

Bob, thankyou also for your suggestion but I live in the sticks a bit so making a copy and finding someone to make the uv resist would be a long shot

My results using letraset are not too bad so that might be my best option

I find myself in need of a piece of brass approximately the sizes above or metric around 75x125x3mm

I have to etch a plate for my sons ashes casket but cannot find anything around this size anywhere on ebay

Can anyone tell me where I might find this material?

I also have another question, I can do this and usually use those rub on letters from stationary shops, sometimes the etch gets underneath the letters, is there a better way I can use?

Thankyou in advance

Its a 9.2" ww1 railway gun, made at armstrongs elswick gun works in 1918

This was one of the first railway guns that could traverse its barrel across the tracks using the outriggers, previously a curved section of track had to be built and the gun moved around the curve till it was pointing in the direction they wanted to fire in

For what its worth here's my tuppenyworth

A few years ago I wanted a bigger lathe and after some consideration I bought a seig lathe from axminster, it had all the bells and all the whistles. Long story short, after axminster replaced my first lathe with a second and it had all the same faults as the first I got a refund and bought a second hand M300.

I have been using it hapilly ever since

I dont know where you are located but try googling BBC Machine tools in Carluke, Lanarkshire. My lathe cost £1500 with three and four jaw chucks delivered, of course cash helps sweeten the deal

Thanks Martin

It's mostly my own design based on the cirrus engine, it is made from bar stock

I dont have any drawings other than a couple of general arrangements that I made up just to get a rough idea of how it would look, the cylinder head is pretty much a copy of another model of the cirrus

Hi Jason

I have made my own, some good, some not so good

I now have to make a new set of con rods and pistons for my engine, the one you helped with by sending me the cylinder head drawing.

I was hoping to buy some better quality ones to save time and inprove the compression

I tried the link you sent but just get an error message

Thanks

Thread: broken globe valve

Thanks Jason

How is it used?

Hi

I have a small brass globe valve that was screwed to a steel spigot

The steel part has snapped off inside the valve and all my attempts to remove it have failed

Is there any chemical way of eroding the steel and leaving the brass intact ? I have used electrosis to remove rust in the past and was thinking of this method but I am unsure what it will do to the brass

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I use little things called hotties

They are like large tea bags with a chemical mixture inside that reacts with moisture in the air to create heat

Kept in a pocket they work wonders when my digits get too cold
