If you have a BT landline and BT internet you can use the BT Call Protect service, this is for free. You just go on line to see what calls you have received the blacklist the ones you don't recognize. |

Thread: Workshops |
16/02/2017 11:24:05 |
about ten years ago. Over the years my health has improved and I now miss my workshop but it would cost thousands to replace and so I just content myself just being a armchair model engineer. |
Thread: Condenser. |

Thanks to all who replied, I now have a good understanding of the subject. |

Thread: Old Files |

Somebody once wrote a article in the ME on how to restore old files by soaking them dilute sulphuric acid. Bert Ashton. |
Thread: Price of steel |
19/01/2016 13:52:38 |
We have been hearing in the news about the decline of the British Steel Industry mostly caused by cheap imports from China. The commentator said that the price of steel had dropped from £600 per ton to below £200 per ton. I do not think that the drop in price reflects the price charged by our ME suppliers, what do others think. Bert Ashton |
Thread: What is the most useful workshop tool that you have made? |
14/11/2015 19:25:10 |
ega, No I never made the GHT toolpost, I used a Myford four-way toolpost that came with the Super 7. Again no, I have never displayed anything at ME exhibitions, I did a lecture, many years ago. at Rochdale ME. The photograph shows the GHT Headstock Dividing Attachment, Retracting Topside and the Graduating Tool. |

Although I have made most of George Thomas's designs I think the most useful is the Universal Pillar Tool, from drilling, tapping, riveting and indexing. In all a perfectly designed |

Garry, I have smoked hand rolled fags for years, I buy my papers in bulk, 100 packs a time, so if you need a couple of packs inbox me your address and I will pop them in the post. Bert. |

Hi Garry, If you wish to buy some locknuts you could look at this site, I have no connection apart from being a satisfied customer. Bert Ashton |
Thread: Acme Rod |
22/09/2015 16:52:30 |
I remember many many years ago my first lathe was a ML1 and I had a similar problem. So I swapped the acme cross slide screw for a length of withworth studding, I am not sure if I used BSW or BSF, I then made a new micro dial to suit the screw pitch. This lash up lasted me for years until I could afford a Super 7. Bert Ashton. |

I can't see anything at all wrong with your top cover, a nice piece of machining, keep up the good work, not long now to bring finished. Bert Ashton. |
Thread: LBSC Maisie Cylinder Drain Cock Operation |
05/07/2015 09:52:37 |
Hi Bruno, I built Maisie over 30 years ago and I remember that LBSC specified automatic drain cocks, these are basically small spring loaded safety valves, I feel sure that they were mentioned in the book and also the drawings. Bert Ashton. |
Thread: WEBB COAL TANK |
15/06/2015 12:17:05 |
Garry, For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the chap who owns the Coal Tank, all I can remember is that he lived in the London area and worked at the Patent Office. Many thanks for your kind offer for the photo, I am fully equipped with computer, scanner and printer so its no problem with photographs, but it is nice to know that people are willing to help. Bert Ashton. |
