Thread: Quorn using E32 collets |
30/07/2020 11:01:23 |
HI, I use an ER20 on my Quorn - its great for sharpening drills because it caters for all sizes, I machined a suitable end to take a ball-bearing nut on an R8 blank to fit my machine. I agree about ER32 probably being too large. T |
Thread: Arduino Gear Hobber |

There is a board that I use called a Teensy 4.1, it is programmed using the Arduino Ide. It is very easy to use and operates at 600MHz. I think it was less than £30. It has encoder inputs. Might be a contender? |
Thread: Learning CAD with Alibre Atom3D |

Thanks for your quick reply David. It was an sheet ali disc so I can extrude it by the sheet thickness and all should be well.. Tool |

Having not used Turbocad for a while I struggled to do a quick sketch - decided to try Alibre and was amazed at how easy it was to use by comparison.. Then the workshop gremlin arrived, I tried to print the part and got a beautiful blank sheet of paper. I then tried to publish as a PDF but was told that an empty part could not be published. What have I missed, its bound to be my fault!(ask the wife). Tool |
Thread: Lead Bearing Solder is Banned |
08/11/2018 18:50:03 |
Hi, Bought 500g of 60/40 leaded solder about 2 minutes ago from Zoro. I am now sitting here trembling waiting for the dreaded knock on he door. I will have nearly 1 kg when this arrives which should see me out! Tool |
Thread: Hemingway taper turning kit for a Myford lathe |
18/03/2018 12:35:19 |
Hi, I made one of these and have used it very successfully lots of times. The kit was excellent and it was easy to make - one of the first things I made. Tool |
Thread: Slitting Saw Arbor. A useful workshop project |
09/03/2018 17:46:34 |
Hi, As a newbie back in the 70's I finish machined my holder in a collet in my mill - when used it was still "eccentric" presumably because of the accuracy of the saw . I also forgot the spanner flats!! Tool |
Thread: Newton Tesla Electric Drives |
17/01/2018 15:58:22 |
Hi, I have five packages from Newton Tesla bought over the last 20 years and have only praise for service and product quality and reliability. I would not go back to the pulley-swapping and noisy single phase era before I bought my first drive - the ability to change from 2000 rpm to tapping speed with the turn of a knob makes the investment worth while. Some say that motors get hot and have no torque at low speed but I have now given up checking my motor temperatures as they always remain very low and I can happily drill 13/16ths in steel with no problem on my S7 at low speed on the top but one pulley speed. Thread: Warco VMC |
28/01/2017 16:09:30 |
Hi all, I have the same mill, motor and VFD as Roger and have set my belt on the same speed. I agree with him - over the twelve years I have used it I have very rarely changed speed and have never had a problem with torque or over heating. My lathe has a similar arrangement and has also been problem free for nearly twenty years. When cutting lots of threads the lathe is running very slowly for hours on end and I have given up checking the motor and VFD as they have never warmed up at all. I have never regretted going VFD but do regret not doing it earlier. Tool. |
Thread: Time in the workshop |

Hi Guys Having just read a post where the author could not decide whether to go into the shop, or listen to an audio book. This prompts me to ask . When in the shop, what do you listen to? Radio ( what station ) CDs, what type of music. Tapes, music or Audio book. I personlly tend to have Radio 4 on myself not really listening to it, but now and again something catches my ear which is interesting. So, what do you listen to? best regards Dave.

Thread: Anodising |
09/12/2012 17:22:25 |
Have built Centering Mic - my threads were to good a fit and siezed on screwing together. The anodised finish was extremely hard and could not be easily machined. I had to make some parts again! Tool |
