Thread: Why so few profiles? |
17/06/2009 11:04:22 |
I wonder why so few users of this great web site include a profile. It is useful to know who members are and their interests, if they are available to help beginners etc etc. Even our editor and his staff seem to have dodged this page.
Regards Chris.

Thread: First Project |
17/06/2009 10:55:26 |
A beginner just like yourself. I started with the little bender, ME 4345 by John Barrett. A great exercise in reading the drawings and making something which has turned out to be a very useful tool. Made up some replacement brake pipes for my car only yesterday.
Followed that with the Stuart S 50 which is almost complete. Looking for some advice about the cylinder casting. (See my other postings).
Now I have started the Shand Mason Fire Engine. There are parts I can do and some I will need to learn about as I go along. For me that is the fun of this crazy game, always something new to learn.
Regards Chris.

Thread: Shand Mason Fire Engine. |

Despite being a novice I have decided to take on the Shand Mason Fire Engine project. (Keep your eye on this forum Gunter, there could be a lot of questions coming your way)! First one is ;- You say there are castings available but I can't find where they are available from. I suspect the turntable is beyond my lathe so may have to buy the casting.
If there is anyone else out there building the Shand I'd be pleased to hear from you.

Thread: Clarke 500 lathe/mill handbook. |
08/06/2009 22:01:18 |
I have owned my Clarke 500 lathe/mill for about 15 years and at last it is being used for modeling. Unfortunately it has moved house with me three times and I have lost the hand book. I really need the lathe and mill speeds charts and any information about the gear trains for screw cutting.
If anyone has a copy and would be willing to copy it for me I would happily pay copy costs and postage.
Thanks Chris.

Thread: Hands on help. |
29/05/2009 20:51:58 |
I live in a fairly remote part of north Cumbria and could do with a little hands on help with my Stuart S50, in particular the cylinder drillings. To be honest I'm unsure what is supposed to be happening in the cylinder and steam chest.
Is there an engineer out there I can visit for help. I am talking about Carlisle, Penrith, Hexham (Northumbria), Stanhope (Co Durham), all being within 20/30 miles of me. Thanks. Chris.

Thread: Posilock threads. |

Hi David and Richmond,
Thanks for your help. Turns out to be 100 but not the pitch of standard studding. Found a bolt at work ( I'm the maintenance man at a lead mining museum, how obscure can you get) that fit and cut, sleeved and welded it to the Clarke drawbar. Success. plus a lesson learned,10mm is not always what you think!
Thanks again, Chris.

Does anyone know what the thread is on the posilock milling chuck (mt 3)? I have a Clarke 500 lathe and need to make a draw bar.
Chris.
