Thread: Spline chunk
02/12/2021 10:24:48

After finally finding the "Spline chunk" feature on the forum, it now tells us this comes to an end at the end of 2021. Are there any plans to replace it or we doomed to fall into illlliterracccy.

Regards Ian.

Thread: How much is a life worth
02/12/2021 10:17:16

As a motor cyclist I was practising defensive riding more than fifty years ago, this carried on when driving a car and the advent of the backward baseball cap mob. Sadly, your common sense doesn't always work.

Thread: Over 70 Driving Licence Renewal
02/12/2021 10:08:15

Renewed my license earlier this year "On line" with no problems at all, despite mine having expired and me being over 70.

Thread: jury service
02/12/2021 10:00:28

Found Jury service an interesting exercise. It did lead me to believe that there should be professional jurors. Reason being that the case I was on there were too many with external influences affecting the result. One had a business and at every opportunity was on the phone (Pre mobile), another had to catch a train before 4pm or it would mean an hour delay. Ones night shift wages were compromised, he also had racist tendencies, not a good thing when the case involved a "person of colour" prosecuting a "Non person of colour" and a jury foreman who' s benevolent reasoning totally changed the initial vote and allowed a perp to go free.

Two of us got it right but the "Defendants" record of guilty offence convictions was ruined by stupidity. Logic and the ability to listen and understand what's being presented are the clues.

Oh yes it is Dave, stupidity is always reliable.

Thread: Does charging your car battery on fast charge damage it?
25/11/2021 11:04:49

Yes John, cylinder head from a Ford "8" on Ford "10" block, E93A engine, standard "Special" builders trick. Mine was in an AKS plastic body "Alfa" two seater look alike, fooled one or two Alfa owners.

Thread: Eletronic Prescriptions
25/11/2021 10:55:53

Local surgery used to have a dedicated repeat prescription line which I could never understand was "busy" for long periods of time. How long does it take to give name and whatever list of medication requested? This has been superseded by t'internet access. Fine, but, every twelve months the "System" decides that it isn't going to supply the prescription because it needs to be reactivated by a "Clinician". This medication, five pills a day since 2002, is supplied on a two monthly basis but one has to ring the surgery to request a clinician ring me, for me to request him/her to press a button on a computer to accept my "order"

Basic problem, since covid, when ringing the ONLY number for the surgery, after listening to two and a quarter minutes of puerile carp telling me not to visit the surgery etc. etc. we then are "Number nineteen in the queue". Last time, a couple of months ago, my reactivation request cost me £12 thanks to Don't Don't. Last explanation for long wait, "We had thirty lines before covid, we now only have three". Didn't realise covid attacks telephone lines?

My tablets run out on a Friday, request is logged Friday before and collected following Thursday. Chemist would deliver but would rather collect.

Thread: Clive Sinclair

It would be kB cos at that time, we made the Tatung swinestein which the advertising bumph stated 128K "Remember Swinestein" (Einstein really) (and it was Decca really)

Thread: Dartmoor line to Okehampton
23/11/2021 09:45:58

Rather amusing the statement that it takes four hours Plymouth to London and we're expected to pay Billions to get to London ten to fifteen minutes earlier from Leeds. Light travels at 186000 miles a SECOND and so does Zoom Facetime Skype etc.

It's said history repeats itself, those making the most out of the HS2 fiasco will be today's rail barons.

Thread: Reading the small-print

And the latest Christmas coupon offerings from the big M specifically excludes Christmas "Spirits" and allclohol.

Thread: How much is a life worth
20/11/2021 10:43:21

From day 1, Pandora's box was opened for drivers using mobile phones - "It's against the law to use a mobile phone whilst driving from January first - - - - but we're giving motorists a months grace to get used to it !" since then, so many legal loopholes have been created by "What if" and "Ahh but" scenarios .

Want to stop it? Speaking purely as a heartless idiot, at the roadside the Police should be able to :-

1 Break the Sim card into quarters.

2 Stamp on the phone

3 Have the vehicle impounded AND crushed.

Too harsh? Don't use a mobile phone or ANY hand held device while driving. Softly softly fines DON'T WORK and never will.

Thread: How do you stop brass tarnishing
18/11/2021 09:08:05

Sixty years ago, any Brass bits we made at skool were polished and liberally coated with clear dope (Cellulose lacquer)

Many thanks for your valued opinions Mr Rhodes, my comments re Smokers and Obesity were well documented at the time but your head must have been busily engaged in an internal inspection at that time.

Your last sentence I find rather contradictory but hey ho, that's only MY opinion. As a "Heartless idiot", my own choice to protect myself from the ministrations of other heartless idiots is obviously wrong. At this point in time, it's not Law but if it was changed would this make a difference? I think not, On the one hand, we have a "Choice" not to protect ourselves from something that can cause premature death but can't BY LAW choose death as an option.

Regards Ian. - - - - - A heartless idiot.

Well flingle my bunts, I appolod happ apologise for not going through the top task bar, there IS a spline chunker, one lives and learns.

No tin hat required Dave but it doesn't evolve for existing spullin or lack thereof and yes, the same intentional splining errors were shown in red on my screen.

Thread: Not the time to be complacent about Covid
16/11/2021 09:35:10

Despite having the third stab, my shopping habits will remain namely 7.15am at the big M, wearing a 99.9% useless face screen but it seems to reassure others. OK, vaccinations should be free choice BUT in the event of covid contraction, so should Hospitals right to refuse admission OR charge for treatment. Despite a direct contribution levied into the price of a packet of fags, some doctors were refusing to treat smokers and it was vented the same for obese patients.

Well done Rob, as a retired drafty, sorry MG., DRAUGHTSMAN, I've always tried to ensure my spulling is corect so on other forums fori? I post on, a right click on the qwechonable spiling gives the choice even a thicky like me can deduce the one to chuse. Not trying to be pendantic (sic) as SOME are, the use of miss spelled Inglish really jangles my chunglies despite the idiots who state "language is subject to evolution."

No, the forum is not subject to a spelling contest but given the addition of Chinglish to our hobby, It beggars beleif that we can't find an easy way ON THIS FORUM to get it rite.

Same applies to post numbers and reposting via a reply to pages of repeats BUT I digress.

Thread: Book Your Covid Booster! Errr, How? Where?
14/11/2021 11:22:35

Got the call Friday mid morning to attend for stab on Saturday 11.30. Got there at 11.20 as MOST of my generation get there 10 minutes early and not one minute late and was ushered straight through. Slight disagreement that I told them NOT to administer Flu jab and that my fifteen minute run down would be spent in the controlled atmosphere of MY CAR and not the plague pit. Had to go through this again on exit to car. Bless, they're only trying to cover all bases so full marks.

And another alternative is that the "perpetrator" doesn't realise they have an answer? The flashing inbox is not very distinctive. Other than that, it's an education thing (or lack thereof) bit like please and thank you. Also a pity when the forum was modded they didn't fix the lack of b****y spline chunk.

Regards Ian.

And before the ex spurts inform "If you use- - - ", ALL other forums seem to have this function as standard.
