Thread: Helicoil Help Needed
12/08/2022 10:24:16

Old Mart has shown what the manufacturers sell as the 'Special' tool to remove them. Drive tang break off can be a problem when fitting.

200cc Cat?

Regards Ian.

Thread: Domestic fan speeds.
12/08/2022 10:17:25

One suggestion, are the bearings dry? Oilite bushes do dry out. Second, a warning, the guts shown look similar to those on my floorstanding bedroom fan. When trying to readjust the position of the head unit, the plastic cover crumbled. OK it's a few years old now but one can only assume (?) the UV stabilisation of the plastic wasn't a priority to the far eastern manufacturer.

It was off when this happened.

Thread: Boiler test

It could be helpful in cases like this that the O/P gives their Universal location. This COULD give an indication of what may have been the threading system used in that location.

Thread: water
12/08/2022 09:53:52

For years, the engineer that proposed the site of the reservoir to feed Bradford was ridiculed as the scale was far too big to be needed. Years later, it became the norm for extra revenue to be generated by selling excess water to the surrounding townships.

In the past, common sense was regarded as a virtue, sadly, this has been superseded by stupidity.

Regards Ian.

Think you'll find 'Yorkshire water' is now a French conglomerate.

Thread: One For The Green Brigade.
10/08/2022 09:53:24

I used to be an optimist but years of disillusionment has made me into a pessimist.

Thread: How Much is this Costing Me?
10/08/2022 09:47:40

Latest quotation from existing household insurance company just hit the mat. With no change in building or contents insured value, 'New' three year fixed price contract shows an increase of more than fifty percent on existing charge. We are, at this point in time 'In consultation'

Thread: Hermes and couriers
08/08/2022 09:23:35

"Lots of these couriers are foreigners who come over here for the good life and they should at least do a proper job"

Be VERY careful what you say Tony, cos ANY criticism of 'Foreign' workers invokes the scream of racism.

Regards Ian.

Lot to be said for walking a mile in another mans shoes.

Thread: Wifi range extender
03/08/2022 09:14:55

The type Chris is describing seems to be the TP Link which is a self contained wall plug NOT a wart.

Thread: Exactly
28/07/2022 10:49:16

Yes Nigel B. It was a series in ME and highlighted both sides of the Atlantic's need for speed of manufacture for war supplies. UK for blocks for warships and TLOTF copy turning of rifle stocks at the Springfield works for the war of independence.

Thread: Do you "still" enjoy driving?
24/07/2022 09:46:53

Should that be 'Duels ON motorways?'

Regards Ian.

Thread: Amazing! Too Good to be True?
20/07/2022 09:47:59

And anyone who has had one of the 'coil packs' fail on a Punto will be aware that it also takes the ECU with it. Old school coil, about £20, 'New age coil pack AND ECU, £600.

Regards Ian.

Carbon string leads were the first in line to replace with copper when engine miss fires occurred. All the new gizmoes, coil packs and coil on leads are for one thing....... KERCHING.

Thread: Diy Magnetic table with permanent magnets
18/07/2022 09:01:33

There was a home build mag table shown on t'internet a few years ago.

Regards Ian.

Thread: Yet another scam
18/07/2022 08:57:46

Trouble is, so many of the 'Report to' seem to be only to serve the feel good factor. TPS doesn't stop all calls, 'Phishing ' and 'Block' on t'internet don't either.

The road to hell is paved with good intention.

Regards Ian.

Thread: Closing a thread, why?
07/07/2022 10:06:25

Everyone has their own opinion but only the muddy raters have the blue pencil and the spike.

Regards Ian.

Thread: Is there a special tool for this?
06/07/2022 11:52:56

Only true tamperproof fixing I've come across is the C/S woodscrew with back ramped drive faces.

Regards Ian.

Thread: NEW LOOK COVER FOR MEW
06/07/2022 11:40:20

Cover and internal pages glossy cos the paper doesn't absorb the ink, easier to wash the paper pulp for recycling. You can still smudge the early MEWs.

Regards Ian.

Thread: Single phase milling machine recommendations
26/06/2022 12:33:09

Chances are, if you want 'old school', it will have to be re-imported via China or previously Taiwan in 'New clothes'. Three phase machinery was a good cheap purchase years ago when we were dismantling the British manufacturing industry. Pity (or fortuitous) inverters weren't the norm at that time.

Regards Ian.

Don't forget, if you go for inverted three phase variable speed supply, you may need an extra cooling supply to the motor.

Only sound better than a Merlin on song is four of them in close formation. OR on occasion, four plus two.
