Thread: How to use CamCalc for cutting Camshafts

DC31K.

Thanks for that, Yes you are correct that works ( I had tried but used _ instead of - )

command line

> java CamCalc 128 .075 .562 .1375 1000 -a1

I'm building the Jerry Howell V4 4 stroke engine and it's time to machine the cams.I've followed Neil's post above and have CamCalc installed on my Win 7 PC.

The Cam details are :

Inlet cam
Cam angle; 128*
Valve lift : .075”
Flank rad: .562”
Base rad: .1375
Speed: 1000

Exhaust cam
Cam angle; 135*
Valve lift : .075”
Flank rad: .562”
Base rad: .1375
Speed: 1000

when I enter :

C:\users\ian\documents>java CamCalc 128 .075 .562 .1375 1000

CanCalc produces a table of results in 2* increments I really would like 1^ increments but can't work out the command line ( I get invalid argument response)

Not sure if Neil will see this but maybe Rod could help.

Thank You Ian

as you can see it fits to one of the T slots and be easly swung out of the way.

I only use mine when using coolant to stop it spraying every where.

broken tap remover.jpgremoved broken drill.jpgrecently I broke a No. 50 drill in a block of Aluminuim . Some time ago I bought a product called BTR-10-broken tap remover, (Translunar technology Ltd , Bucks) it contains 33% aluminum sulphate.

The instructions say to dissolve a quantity in water in a aluminum /glass container and simmer the part . It states no action occurs at a lower temp.

After approx 1 hour enough of the drill had been dissolved and it just fell out.

I have aTom Senior light vertical milling machine , tilting angle plate and tilting vice.

Thank You

John.

Earlier this week I broke a No. 50 drill in a block of Aluminum . Some time ago I bought a product called BTR-10-broken tap remover, (Translunar technology Ltd , Bucks) it contains 33% aluminum sulphate.

If you are close to Stoke On Trent you are welcome to borrow the solution.

Thread: Jerry Howell's V 4 4 cycle engine
20/05/2019 23:26:35

Thanks for that Jason.

So the rotary table method is best because once the engine block is centred on the RT both cylinder banks will be aligned with the crank centre.

20/05/2019 20:01:58

Hi.

After some advice please.engine block drawing.jpg

I've just started to build the V4 to Jerry Howell's plans.
I've made a start on the engine block and am at the point of boring the cylinder bores. In the build notes Jerry suggest mounting the block on a rotary table with the bottom face horizontal at the top and then rotating it 135* degrees and machine the first cylinder bank then rotate 90* and machine the second . Bit of a silly question but is this the same as having the top face at the top (horizontal) and rotate the table 45* for one bank and then back 90* for the second? because rather than mount the block on the RT I was thinking of mounting it on an angle plate and using a angle gauge to set it horizontal and then 45* each way. Also I don't understand the 1.546" measurement on sheet 8 it's to/from a point in thresh air?
Thank you

I've used for several years a Bison (Tool mex) Type 4414 48 x 37 some times named T001 or S001 with a suffix of M or not.. They are a direct fit on the top slide of ML7's and Super 7's.They are expensive but top quality.
