Thread: A Quiet Air Compressor?
05/02/2021 20:41:07

Dental air compressors are generally very quiet

The compressor where I go would not seem out of place in a garage surprise

I would like to add that I only wish I had had mine done earlier.

The improvement is really dramatic, finding out the true colours of things again was a bit of a revelation.

I had both mine done at the same time. This had two benefits, lower cost and reduced hospital visits.

It has taken around two and a half months for things to really settle. Now my optician says I don't need specs for driving anymore so that is a bonus.

Fred's presence here is to show that a person can be respected for their skills just as much as someone with qualifications. Media personality or not, I would like to see another of his equal.

Television cathode ray tubes behave the same way. The capacitor is the aquadag coating with a glass dielectric.

Could be a bit awkward if you get a shock while carrying the tube!

Just an update re my surgery that happened yesterday.

The ability to see has improved remarkably. The decision to have both eyes done at the same time was the right thing to do for me. There was no discomfort at all and I had a running commentary as the operationn progressed.

Colour vision has changed back to how it used to be. I don't need help for distance now and what astigmatism I had seems to have improved as well. The down side is that I do need specs for close-up work but this was expected.

I have found this thread very interesting. I have one eye worse than the other but as both will need attention at some time the consultant suggested having them both done at the same time. His reasoning was reduced exposure to the hospital environment in view of the covid situation. I have opted for distance vision as this seems to be the best compromise.

My best tram memory was when a tram came into Wimbledon terminus at some speed with part of the rear platform on fire. The conductor poured sand over the flames and all was well.

Thread: Adept and Wizard lathes
19/08/2020 16:25:29

Ok Rod, many thanks. The spindle looks well made with no wear so it was a guess as to its hardness. I have tried the spindle with a file now and it is not hardened.

The background to this question is that I have been given both a Wizard and a Super Adept. The Wizare is in good condition together with most accessories. Not so the Adept but it might not be beyond restoring.

Can someone let me know the considered upper spindle speed for these small lathes please? The headstock bearings are plain cast iron with a hardened shaft (or so I believe)..

Stuart, i understand the difference now.

Robert, Thanks for the info about cleaning the zebra strip and contacts. I have IPA and so when things cool down I'll try to sort out the problem.

Stuart,

I have a fluke multimeter and my display has some segmente dimmed seemingly caused by the zebra strip connectors. Were you having this problem?

Thanks for the weblink
