Push stroke. Because of the design, the pull stroke is much faster.

Thread: Lady Stephanie

I think this has been published as a series. Not sure if it was Model Engineer. Popular science or popular mechanics rings a bell. This would have been the UK version published probably in the 1970s. I remember a beam engine in one of the last two mentioned.

Thread: Arc Euro boring and facing head
22/09/2015 14:56:55

I doubt you need the facing facility. In over 35 years in industry I never needed the facing facility.

Thread: Tail Stock Adjustment and Steady Rest
22/09/2015 14:49:58

Looks like you are all trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Hold the material in the three jaw chuck and tailstock centre. Waist the bar down leaving two collars. True up the collars by moving the tailstock making sure the collars are the same size. Set the fixed steady to the collar on the tailstock end. Reverse the bar in the chuck. Face off the bit of bar that was held in the chuck and centre drill. All should now be true. Finally check between centres.

Thread: Thread Rolling

It might be capable especially with smaller threads. I don't think there was any strain on the motors we used. Certainly the motor did not slow down or change its noise.

Hi Adam Free sliding. I think we just came up to the start of the bar and it fed itself down.q

Thread rolling, as far as I remember, was done very fast. We used a capstan lathe with the roller box in the turret.

Christmas tree label templates - cut around them?

Thread: Spindle lubrication on small Chinese bench lathes.

That is good. Doncaster is about 40 miles nearer to me than Harrogate.

Thread: O rings - where to buy true inch sizes
18/09/2015 09:08:28

Try Radiospares. They used to do reasonable price packets of silicon o rings.

Thread: We're Moving

You won't get charged if you can't get through. Good job they are not charged for waiting.

Thread: Worn Myford

I think the saddle was gang milled. I may even have a photograph or two. I will look later.

Myford used to gang mill the bed so they are probably all the same within a thou or two.

Thread: Medium sized wobbler engines.
16/09/2015 18:39:14

The tubal Cain one is the one I meant. If you look at the design, you will see it is basically the same as a small one so just double or treble the size of a small one.

There are videos on you tube of someone building a large aluminium oscillating engine that are worth watching.

Thread: How would you design a extra mini lathe (Adept size)
16/09/2015 17:19:52

Hi John W1 I think that it was in Engineering In Miniature.

Thread: Worn Myford
16/09/2015 13:16:02

You probably don't need a regrind. You could set it up on a mill and skim the faulty area. As long as you set the sadle correctly you won't have to take much off and then only off one face.

Thread: My little engine (continued)

Hi Gary It is easy to stone the radius on. A little bit of practice and take a trial cut on something soft like brass or aluminium to check radius for rubbing and correct size.

L C Masons book is still available from Ebay and I think TEE Publishing may stock it.

Try using some diamond honing stones to put the radius on. Arc Euro Trade sell some plastic backed ones.
