Thread: Denford CNC milling

I had a Denford Triac for a while and it was a very sturdy little machine.
I don't know Denford's philosophy on the software, you will have to ask.
It was very heavy. I bought it from Ebay not realising how heavy it was.
It would take four people to lift it.
 
I was lucky, the chap selling it was coming to my area in a couple of weeksand bought it with him. The two of us managed to slide it off the back of the pickup truck and straight onto the angle iron bench it came with. We did have to take the front of the shed off to get it in.
 
I only sold it as I did not want to move it when we moved.
 
Boxford only sell to educational establishments because their software can only be licensed to educational users because I think something to do with the people who write the software. They did however downgrade the roms in my 160 homing Boxford so I could use the software available on their website. Cost me £150 though. I have a Boxford 125TCL now and will definitely be converting it to Mach 3 eventually.

Omissions are as follows:
The angular run out of the cylinder centreline is 3/8 inch from the extreme top of the frames. This line is in line with the left hand top of frame that is 3/8 down from the extreme top.
 
The trailing horn slot centre is 2 inches from the right hand end.
This is on the top of the drawing but the line has not been carried down to the horn slot.
 
The holes for part 10 are 1 5/8inch to the centre hole.
Again see top of frame dimensions.
 
Two vertical holes C at front of frames are equispaced around the front hole.

Have not done that part yet.
I have done the underside but that was with a file.
 
Although I machined the underside on a previous engine, I thought I would use file and wet and dry to see what results I got and they were excellent.
 
I might have photographs of the last time I machined one.
I will see if I can find them.

The 10H bottom was done exactly the same as the 10V.
Just make sure you remove any flash from inside the casting and it should be fine.

I rarely get photos I can use as covers.
Usually they are too low a resolution, have a cluttered background, are landscape format or are generally unsuitable.
 
Open to suggestions.
 
Model Engineer is far easier to get suitable covers.

BA are not obsolete.
The standard has been recently updated.
To standardise on one set of threads seems a bit daft.
Use what is most apropriate.

You can't take 1/16 of the Stuart bed plate castings or engine base.
There is barely 10 thou on each face.
I will put some photos in a gallery a bit later today.
I have started a Stuart 10H and 10V recently and am photographing it as I go.
It will appear in Model Engineer over the next few months as a beginners series.

I have just machined one with no problems.
No hard spots at all.
Try putting a small chamfer on the cutting edge.

Small quantities prefered.
I believe this is hot rolled sheet.

I think that the shank are morse taper 0 or 1.
It is over 35 years since I measusred one.
Perhaps you could buy an old S type chuck with a decent centre and fit it to yours.
You could probably pick up an old 40 international one for a few quid.
