Could you silver solder a bit in place and machine that? |
Thread: Help required re: centec 2b motor replacement |
14/10/2015 10:50:44 |
The Centec is a lovely little machine. We had one where I worked and it ran for about 8 hours a day. The head got very warm but it worked fine. It leaked oil from the spindle quite a bit. I would suggest a transformer to run a 24volt light bulb or possibly a LED version. |

What is wrong with the gears? Could they just have come loose on the shaft? |

The easiest way to learn metric is to do railway modelling when you are young. (4mm to the foot.) I have been using imperial and metric for the last 48 years or so with no problems. Edited By David Clark 1 on 13/10/2015 16:24:39 |
Thread: How is one supposed to use a rotary table or dividing head? |
13/10/2015 08:57:30 |
Hi Ian You could still use the hole as a location but use a pin in the spindle to line it all up then cut the lug off. |
Thread: Rotary table suggestions for Myford vertical slide |
13/10/2015 08:54:05 |
RDG do a 3" one I think. That is about the largest that will go on a Myford. |
Thread: New Book Announced: The Shed and The Wife |

Just goes to show the state of literacy in this country if adults need Ladybird books to learn to read! |
Thread: Yiyen 6 inch Rotary Index Table |
12/10/2015 18:14:45 |
What is missing, looks complete. I would think at least £80 on EBay. |
Thread: Climb Milling |
12/10/2015 08:21:42 |
Many years ago a company ( I think) did an electrostatic coolant system that put a tiny bit of oil on a cutter. I think the original was for a lathe tool but it should work on a mill. I think it may have been the company that bought out a round bed lathe in the 1970's or 80's. It was described in Model Engineer. |
Thread: How is one supposed to use a rotary table or dividing head? |

Use a mandrel in the centre and a location pin. The pin could be in the waste material (cut that away last) or one of the lugs could be left longer and cut off after. This way you could do a batch of components one operation at a time. |
Thread: Hydraulic copy attachment put into practice |
12/10/2015 08:08:50 |
What about hanging the tool of the left hand side of the tool post so it can be lower? |
11/10/2015 16:58:57 |
I seem to remember the turners where I worked ran the lathe backwards with the tool tip face up when using their hydraulic copying attachment. Could be wrong as it was a long time ago. |

Using an overall face mask allows you to use ordinary specs so they don,t get dirty. Clean by dipping in soapy water and rinse off under the tap. |
Thread: What did you do today (2015) |

Should we start a new thread about kerfuffle? |
Thread: Centre finding small holes |

Why not just use a dial indicator on the hole? If you put say a 6mm slot drill through when the hole is lined up then follow it through with the drill. |
Thread: DRO for ML7 |

The dro was described in MEW a few years ago. Perhaps Neil can change the sample MEW magazine to this one? |
Thread: Conjunction 9 10 15 |

Yes, full page solves the problem. Only been on the forum since it started so did not realise. |

On latest posts it said Conjunction 9 10 15 How are we supposed to know what that is? |
Thread: Tool dilemma!! |

Looking at the photos I would think gumtree would be the best place to advertise them. We would need photos of the whole machine to estimate value. |

Could astronomy and similar off topic posts be started with the subject of the topic such as Astronomy - Conjunction 9 10 15 so we know what it relates to and don't have to waste time looking at it in the latest post threads? |
