Thread: What MIG Welder should I get? |
17/12/2018 13:27:48 |
Hi Iain, I've had a Clarke 145 turbo for almost a year and I'm very happy with it. Firstly regarding duty cycle, according to the blurb mine has a higher duty cycle than the 151EN weird or what. Why they call it a 145 when it goes from 35 to 135 amps who knows it could all be a marketing thing. Liners are easily available even tho its not a euro torch. I've even welded an aluminium model engine exhaust using 5356 mig wire and no I didnt change the liner it didn't leak this was a non critical application. The clarke was bought on a vat free voucher so cost just over £160. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. The main problem with any hobby migs seems to be wire feed, you sometimes just have to waste a couple of feet. All the small reels of mig wire seem to be layer wound whereas you can get 5kg reels precision wound. I personally buy all my mig wire, welding rods and mig tips from a local welding supplier and they work out much cheaper than Machine Mart, Screwfix and Tool station etc. My local welding supplier has ebay accounts as well with free postage, wecsltd and tawltd, arcriteweldingsafetyltd been another I use. I've no association with these other than a happy customer. Feel free to message me with any queries. Regards Lee |

Jason sorry the link failed, no its not the holder requested but they are holders that take TCMT inserts if you're desperate for some. The holders quoted are STFCR and STGCR, sorry for any confusion Regards lee Edited By Aeronut on 29/11/2016 20:57:06 |

Thread: Is CNC cheating |
03/09/2016 18:18:25 |
That's why I didn't vote, you could even start another vote. Is having an electric motor on your lathe cheating. A final word, get over it and get on with it. Model engineering that is however you wish to approach it, it's a hobby. Regards Lee |

Thread: Axle box material |
06/04/2014 17:29:35 |
Fizzy & Dusty thanks for the advice. Regards Lee |
06/04/2014 12:19:23 |
Hi Fizzy, I'm not wanting to hijack this thread but I have currently got the frames and axle boxes cut for a Martin Evans Buffalo the frames are 3/8" thick and the axle boxes are quoted on the drawings as mild steel with sintered bronze bushes which I already have. Would you recommend me ditching the mild steel axle boxes and use cast iron? There are no horns on this bar frame model the boxes run directly on the frame. Regards Lee

Thread: Time for a new lathe |

petro1head, I'm highly satisfied with the Warco backup, if you need to, Dave in the workshop can be contacted directly using the main Warco number option 6 I think. He's got me out of a pickle in the past, you may have to chase him he's a busy chap but very helpful and there's always Roger if you need a big gun. All suppliers can have problems but its how they sort them that matters. Good luck with your new lathe I'm sure you'll enjoy making swarf. Regards Lee |

Hi Petro1head, bet you can't wait to stroke it. When I got my 1232 from warco I said to the wife what do you think then, the reply was the green doesn't match the miller. LoL Regards Lee |

Hi petro1head I have a Warco 1232 I bought this because Warco had stopped doing the BH900 but when I went to the Harrogate show in 2010 they said that the BH600 was now available not been large enough I went for the 1232. Now just because it says out of stock on the warco website doesn't mean you can't get what you're after. I was told I'd have to wait for another shippment from China because the last batch of 1232's had all been sold before the were even in the country. I was waiting about 6 weeks. The variable spped lathes look good but do the have bolt on chucks as opposed to screw on or camlock, this can be a bit of a niggle. Warco and the Chester variants seem very similar. Just after I'd purchased mine the 1232 became the 1230 (don't know why) I've had my Warco 918 10 years now and the 1232 just 2 years and I'm highly satisfied. Must admit I love the 38mm bore of the 1232. But its what you need and what your pocket can afford.
