Yeah, that or this!

02/10/2023 11:57:28

Good morning,

This week we will be switching the website and forum from its current server and technology to a modern, mobile friendly platform.

The timeline is as follows:

05/10/23 8am BST – Current site to go offline and a holding page put up.

10/10/23 9am – Moderators given access to new site for checking.

12/10/23 10am – New site online – All being well this will happen before this date.

We will post updates here:

www.mortonsdigital.co.uk/blog/2023/10/02/model-engineer-model-boats-forum-migration-updates/

Please bookmark that page now before this forum goes offline.

When the new site goes live, you will need to log in with your email address and password. If that doesn't work you can do a password reset.

If you don't have access to the email address on your account here, you should change it before Thursday or you may be locked out.

Thanks for your support and patience

Jason, you mention png but I trust that other file formats will teh supported for attachments? Every other forum I use allows a range, and for us in particular pdf, xls, txt, would be very useful. That would also allow for example software in .txt format (to share useful programs) to be attached.

Hi John, we'll try to add as many formats as you need. If something won't upload, let me know and we can put an exception in to allow it.

I think it's safe to say this is probably the most complicated thing we have ever done! It's getting there but I've stopped putting dates on it!

Hopefully I won’t have to login every time because that gets annoying even if I don’t close page and go to check something I still have to login again, other forms I am on I never have to.

Dell

Check that you have cookies enabled for this site. The logging off issue that dogged the forum for years seems to have been solved for most users.

Neil

How do I check cookies are enabled ? I am on an iPad.

Dell

sods law didn’t have to login this time and I hadn’t been on here since this morning ????

Will the new platform have the option for us to upload files other than jpeg question

MichaelG.

It will, yes. It would be useful if you could list the type of files required (extension letters).

Had to happen eventually and we've had a good kick at the ball in this place

It all hinges on the forum migration, death or victory awaits

Let's go for victory - I want to still have a job by the summer!

Thread: MEW Subscription lapsed with no warning

To Mr Darren

Your Contact Page has yielded no response not even an "automatic confirmation"

I have renewed digital subs for both ME and MEW last 2 months the latest confirmed 13 Oct

The subs number. is the same for both ME and MEW???

ME logon now gives "details incorrect" How do I check the Password? It worked before using my subs number.

Renewel notice sub number is only 5 digits long, missing the zero.

referring to my customer account page:

Line 1 reads MEW status lapsed

Line 2 reads ME status active

Line 3 reads MEW status active

Regards, J Harding

Sorry John, I've asked someone to email you

Darren, one thing I have seen is on the off chance that I go to Magazines, select ME or MEW and login it doesn't take me to the most recent mag however the first from when your new watcher became dynamic. Eg Model Designer opens 4693 not 4696 so I need to then get document up and choose the most recent issue.

Thanks - I'm trying to fix this!

Any indication on when the remainder of the MEW issues missing from the archive will be uploaded ?

Hi Chris - I'm glad you asked that! The rest are uploading as I type this, I have some processing to do and the whole archive should be complete by midnight!

Thread: Pre-order the September issue now!

I know nobody asked for opinions on the cover, but...

I like it - nothing difficult to read due to contrasting colours, nice photo of some machinery, list of what's inside.

Only criticism would be the photo overlaying the title - not keen on that, it even obscures the date.

Rob

Opinions very welcome Rob, it's made for you so we want you to like it!

Often wondered how pre-order differs from order, here it seems the same thing. Maybe its the delivery time.

Pre-ordering not only secures your copy, but you should get it through your door a day or two before it hits the shops!

Here's the cover for the September issue of Model Engineers' Workshop, and you can pre-order from here with free UK delivery: PRE-ORDER MODEL ENGINEERS' WORKSHOP

Darren, one thing I have noticed is if I go to Magazines, select ME or MEW and then login it does not take me to the latest mag but the first one from when your new viewer became active. Eg Model Engineer opens 4693 not 4696 so I have to then get archive up and select the latest issue.

Also ME does not seem to be getting updated regularly to latest issue on the homepage or top of other pages, still a couple of issues behind

Edited By JasonB on 21/07/2022 16:46:23

Thanks - i can fix that with the archive

On the current issue, i'm just trying to track down who should be doing that!

21/07/2022 16:39:40

Good afternoon. By this evening, the Model Engineering archive should be complete. Let me know if you find any problems or anything missing.

We will then look at completing Worksop and Boats (RCM&E is done)

Happy reading, and thanks for bearing with us.

19/07/2022 16:06:43

Hi everyone. Just a bit of back story. When Mortons acquired four titles (ME MEW MB RCM&E) from MyTime Media, the archive system didn't come with it.

In the past few weeks, we have had to build four brand new archives from scratch, integrate it with our publishing system and subscription system, and rename and upload 100s of magazines in date order.

This has been a mammoth undertaking for us, and we are still at it.

I'm happy to say that there will be at least 100 new issues in the ME archive by midnight tonight, and at least another 100 by the end of the week.

Apologies for how long it's taking, but this wasn't a case of just switching something over.

Give me a shout if you have any problems or questions.

Thanks
