Thread: Run out on bar
12/11/2021 10:39:41

This was after I turned the bar down! Wouldn’t 0 indicated that the bar is now straight in the Chuck? Used a micrometer and reading same values either end!

Cheers for the reply’s guys. I managed to get a couple thou out by tightening the Chuck up several times! That seemed to work well!

I managed to turn a bit of bar down! Probably a terrible cut. Wasn’t sure on the angle of the tool relative to the bar. Probably should of looked that up before I started! 🤦‍♂️

thanks again 👍

Thank you all very much! Just a big learning curve for me. I believe I also have a 4 jaw Chuck. I was under the impression, if you clamp something in a Chuck, it would be true! Clearly not 😂

Will watch the video later .

much appreciated

Thanks for link! 1971 ml7! As I’ve never used a lathe before, I wasn’t sure what to expect! I assumed, a new Chuck with a straight bar, it wouldn’t have any runout. As I said, complete novice! Just want to learn.

Thank you

Hi all,

I’ve got a question regarding different length bar in my Chuck! Regardless of the length or diameter of bar, I seem to have run out with my dti gauge at the end of the bar. I’ve just fitted a brand new Chuck and backplate as I thought the old Chuck was worn !
I was under the impression , with a new Chuck and solid bar, it should spin with no run out??

sorry if this is a stupid question! Complete novice starting out!

thanks in advance.

Thread: Clutch slip
11/11/2021 07:27:27

Made up a new push pin, slightly longer than the one fitted. Clutch working fine now . Thank you for information

07/11/2021 13:21:53

Thank you all for replying!

Apologies for my incorrect terminology! Push pin looks too short! The shoes look absolutely fine, loads of material on them.

I’ve deglazed the shoes and inner drum. When I adjust the pin so the clutch is completely engaged, the pin sometimes falls out . I’m thinking of making a longer pin so the adjusting screw won’t be wound in so much.

I have some bar which I should be able to run down to diameter.

I’ve taken pictures but unfortunately can’t send from my phone!

Really appreciate the replys

Hi all,

I have clutch slip on my myford ml7! Cleaned, and deglazed shoes. Refitted, still the same.
can you buy aftermarket shoes? Can you also get the roll pin for the adjuster on the clutch?
many thanks

I’ll have a look on ARC and see what I can find.

I’ve seen the Chinese built chucks but dubious about the quality!
End of the day, can’t be any worse than what I’ve got now 😂.

Thanks for reply.

Good morning,

I’m new to this forum and new to model lathes! This has probably been asked a load of times so apologies in advance!

The Chuck on my ml7 has seen better days! Could anybody recommend a good 3 Jaw chick with backplate, that I could bolt straight on without having to machine anything??

I don’t think my machining skills will be quite up to it just yet 😀

I believe it has the 3 jaw 100ml Chuck fitted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
