Thread: Can i reverse this motor ?

U1 and U2 are your run windings Z1 and Z2 are the start windings. To reverse the direction of rotation swap over Z1 and Z2. Noel.

Thank you, i had to remove the block and i managed t JUST see the tags on the cables to swap them over.

Also thanks to the other for the help

Thread: Wiring a VFD to a foot switch?

Trying to use a motor as a sort of a lathe, with the outer tube as a rough sort of a chuck? All sounds a bit iffy to me. Quick way to get to the front of the queue at A&E is to mention angle grinder.

I guess your one of them folk. As your unable to do it nobody else can.

Well if you are not sure what foot control and VFD have to do with this thread, I'm not sure anyone else can tell you!

See the first sentence of your original question indecision

Ian P

I Can't see what it matters on the end of the motor spindle to do with having a VFD fitted with foot control.

Folk have gone off topic asking things that they are assuming.

All.i asked in the first place was if I can fit a foot comtroll.with a VFD to run a motor.

I will stick my neck out first.

Wayne, I have read all your posts in this thread and admit I still do not understand what you are trying to do!

You mention 'grinder'. Is that an angle grinder, bench grinder, surface grinder, die grinder or something else?

Thick wall and tube (two tubes even) mean little without knowing the context.

Lots here who are more than willing to help but its difficult by guesswork.

Ian P

I usually take pictures but there is no way to do thay from my phone camera.

Ok

Imagine the motor with a tube on the spindle

Now imagine a tube inside the tube which is locked into it.then an angle.grinder is used to radius the end of the inner tube

The inner tube is removed once the end has been radiused.

Then another tube in inserted etc etc and again and again.

Not sure what it has to do with the foot control.and VFD I am.trying to worknon and see if it's possible.

Hope thay helps out folk to help out the foot control and VFD.

Thanks Andrew and Old.Duffer..Good help there. I will.research more on the Web and stop meithering you over this.

For those that dont get what I am.doing please.read.my laat.post on page 1.

I have a tube on the motor spindle holding a n inner tube so I can grind/profile then end.

13/01/2023 20:34:44

Well.now were getting to what I understand Andrew. In plain words I can understand not elecy jargon haha.

Ok now as.it goes the motor I have shown here is to show my idea will work for whay I need it to do and tat is profile.the tube.

So.next is to find a 3ph motor. And a VFD and foot control. Is there a certain type of 3ph motor to get. Is a dual phase motor ok ?

Also a foot.control..Will a sewing machine type.work ?

Thanks for the help .Andrew

Yes. Leave the controller I last linked to. I last posted about a VFD which I would rather use to ask Andrew on how I go about it.

Sigh, the unit is a thyristor phase angle voltage controller. It does not change frequency so will not change the speed of an induction motor. As an aside note that the 4kW rating is for a resistive load, which a motor certainly isn't.

It would be much better to tell us what you want to achieve and then those forum members who understand the technology can advise on the best solution.

Andrew

All I want to do is use the motor I have to run at lower speeds than the 1440rpm it is. Maybe as low as 500rpm. Also be used with a foot control pedal.

If I can use a VFD, which one AT1 or AT2. Would be good to use the dead stop feature as I use on the o e on my lathe.

The project is to fit a thick wall tube inside an outer tube thay is fitted to the motor spindle to use a grinder to do the job to round off the edges.

13/01/2023 13:37:37

Ok just seen these forn the speed control. Which can

.I think be easy wired.to foot.control..

This will.do away with a VFD which is more complex

The motor is 0.55kw so under the 4kw speed.controer.

How does that sound

This is only a tester to see if what I am doing works so I can get a 3phase later if need be.

This is the motor I am using now though.

single phase motor and VFD ?

Yes I have a motor I want to alter rpm/Hz.

I do have instructions somewhere from.another VFD I fitted just can't find themamd don't want to go buying another incase I can't run the motor from a VFD with a foot switch.

I was thinking on using a sewing machine pedal aswell

.my last sewing machine only had two wires going to it. It was an old Reeds.

I know the VFD can be set up for all sorts and dead.stoppong which I want aswell

.

Thanks for the help aswell

Hi all

Got a project here that needs a foot switch wiring to a single phase motor with a VFD. Usual cheap chinese one as below.

Is this possible?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393329744803?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=fX8V16uPTo2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=Wi78z-7jSx-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It will be a off/on/off switch. So put foot on switch then telease to stop the motor.

Thanks Faffer

Thread: Can i reverse this motor ?
24/12/2022 11:39:45

Excellent chaps thanks. Once my head is straight and stopped wobbling ill see about the windings. Had a bottle to many last night.

All best for tomorrow and new year chaps

I need to sort my head out with electrics soon enough as my workplace want me to be the maintenance chap and go on a few courses. Head aches to come i reckon, not easy to to old dog new tricks haha

23/12/2022 19:41:39

Ok i have googled etc etc and still cant get my head in gear.

In simple, can and how do i reverse this motor please.

Thread: Hi all, newbie with first lathe, rare one i think.

And how is the old lathe working for you now you have had a year to play with it? It certainly looks like a beauty.

Not a great deal as the lathe is fun and well i have no fun sadwinkteeth 2

I recently amended the conveyor rollers from work due the bearing collapsing and turning the ends down for new bearings. Nice little earner aswell

Made a Plumb bob for a mate.

odds n sods of jobs really aswell.

And only thing i got pics of was a roller i wanted to make for making these cages i sell.

these are not precision bits of kit good practice and work great

19/12/2022 12:38:56

Hi chaps

Afraid you're replying to a very old message I put on lastr year when I first got the lathe

I mentioned a rebuild as folk on another forum said to do a full refurb on it. Which I chose not to due to very little i fo out there on it. . Not even paint it but kept it as is.

Appreciate the thoughts and advice though.

18/12/2022 19:39:51

Well i gave up on looking for info on the lathe. it does what it needs to do. A bit of a faff as the scale are not very clear so will be fitting a DRO some time.

So next thing i got a couple week back was this Tom Senior mill. I actually went to buy a power hack saw as he was asking a daft low price but he sold it on me surprisesad

BUT

as it was he had a milling machine for sale as the chap was selling up so like you do. I had it. Just the perfect size for the shed.

What a faff about though to get the place ready for the mill. I had to move the lathe over. while insulating the back wall and lining it as if it did get done now it would not of been done. Oh and paint the floor.

Then move the fly press bench over as the mill was going there. Dont know what i would do with the engine hoist. well prob by a set of skates haha

Now the fly press bench. all in one go

And new machine in place.

I dont ink ill be getting anything else to soon. Although the mill wasnt expected so did all this a few days. Would love a shaper for the sake of it, maybe a surface grinder haha. Need more room though and that is not going to happen.

I have it wired up to a 3ph 415 VFD and works fine. I just need to sort out a tapping noise coming from the top pulley. Il be stripping it down this xmas as have a bit of time off ans T works over christmas so lots of time. well aswell as loads of other things to do.

Oh made stove aswell a sits dam cold in here. made it just in time hey it has been as cold as -8 to -10 recently here in Manchester.

All best folks for xmas from Faffer.

Think i will have my first go tomorrow, made new cabinet now and sorted the fitting of the new 3ph motor and VFD out. need to programme the VFD though i think. it runs but its tech so ill sort that tomorrow aswell.

I also found the G box drain and filler, so i will be doing an oil change soon aswell.

storage for gears and face plates

the belt adjuster is temp as i need the lathe to make a decent adjuster.

Oh and not painting the cabinet, i was but not now. I will be at some point adding a draw or two in the end unit aswell for tooling.

cant wit to get going now
