Hello all. Macc Models website states that office and shop closed until 2nd October. Does anybody know if this affects online orders? Geoff |

How about a small scale DB5 convertible you can drive? Checkout The Little Car Company. Geoff |
Thread: Lathes at Beamish Museum |
21/04/2023 09:09:24 |
Was at Beamish Museum yesterday and spotted these two treadle lathes set up in a recreation of a shed/workshop behind some miner's cottages. No obvious maker's names on them. Anybody recognise them? Apologies if the photo orientation is wrong. Geoff

Thread: MyFord Boy Traction Engine |

Thanks for that Jason. I should have realised it will depend on where the connection is, obviously my brain isn't properly switched on yet this morning. Will contact Myfordboy. Geoff |

Thanks all for your replies. Dave and Noel, must admit I hadn't thought of a solenoid, but still like the idea of a motor. Lee, lovely idea but don't know if my very limited electrical knowledge will stretch to a sound module and timed smoke. Dennis, have read that thread thanks. Jason, any idea what output speed motor I should be looking for? Hadn't considered radio control, see above for my electrical knowledge! Geoff |

Hi all Having built several stationary engines I would now like to build a simple traction engine. Looking around the MyfordBoy one seems to be a good one to start with. However, and this will probably upset the purists, I would like it to be battery powered. Initial thoughts are that the motor, probably geared type, could be fitted in the boiler tube, with drive to the crankshaft via belt and pulleys or shaft and bevel gears. With the batteries and speed controller in the tender. Does this sound feasible and have any of the forum members done this, and if so any advice on modifications, also motor type, speed and power. Looks very like Elmer's pumping engine No. 17. Geoff |

I find Aluminium Droitwich good for pieces of aluminium. They have an ebay store with a good selection of sizes and profiles. Prices and delivery are good. No connection other than a satisfied customer. Geoff |
Thread: Best method of selling completed models |

Would agree with the Ebay route. I have sold a few models this way and have not had any problems. Although I do pack them very carefully and securely to avoid damage. Geoff |
Thread: JDW Grasshopper engine |

Have completed the engine and it runs on compressed air. Just need to make proper keep pins for the ends of shafts and fit gaskets, then strip and paint. Jason, I made the side link hole centres at 85.5mm as advised and this works ok, so thanks again. Apologies if photos are in wrong orientation. Geoff Edited By JasonB on 12/11/2022 15:07:42 |

Jason, I have already drilled the beam as per drawing, so will reduce the link dimension. Thanks for your help Geoff |
16/10/2022 09:45:22 |
Morning Thanks to all for your comments, certainly plenty to think about. Jason, have just started the beam and have not made the side links yet so should be able to sort something out. Geoff |

Thanks Bazyle, will have look at that. Geoff |

Thanks for that Jason. Think I will try it at 4mm first and see how it goes. Can always be opened up a little if necessary! Geoff |

Hi all Am currently building the Grasshopper Engine from JDW , drawing number EVB-P37. I have a query on the main beam. The hole at the end for the piston rod is shown as 4.25mm dia, the piston rod fork has a 4mm dia hole through. Has anybody built this engine? Is the 4.25mm a mistake or is it intentional slop? Thanks Geoff |
Thread: Designs for a 1/2" hacksaw blade type parting off tool holder |
01/08/2022 18:56:24 |
What a good idea. After reading this I have made my version. As someone who struggles with wider parting tools I found this easy to use. Think I will alter it to change the screws to countersunk heads to get closer to the chuck jaws. Sorry if the picture is wrong way round. GeoffT Edited By JasonB on 01/08/2022 19:07:37 |
Thread: Elmer's VR75 engine |
04/07/2022 17:02:05 |
Thanks Jason and Martin, that seems to make sense. 5/16" it is, also will probably go with 1/8" cutter as per Jason's suggestion. GeoffT |

Hi all Am currently building Elmer Verberg's VR75 vertical engine. On the cylinder body the two ports are shown as 1/16" x 5/8". This seems too wide, I think it should be 1/16" x 3/8". Anyone else built this engine and can confirm the size? Thanks GeoffT |
Thread: Paintwork |
30/05/2022 14:38:34 |
Sounds like rattle cans are the way to go. Jason, I do hang parts on wire but they still move about when painting, like the idea of tapered sticks, will give that a go, thanks. Geoff |
