Can anyone suggest a uk supplier for small flat bladed screwdrivers for clock repair. Looked on ebay , most looked like they where out of a christmas cracker. I was thinking of a small set , no philips , something that would do the job. Cheers Mike |

Thanks Peter for posting that image, first time I can see how it should look. No I do not have the two gears on the right or the shaft to hold them. i can see a hole on the frame where they should be. Have got the clock working now apart from the hour hand. The minute hand seems to be keeping good time. |

Just an update. I have been advised that there is a cog missing that goes between the hour shaft and the drive, that is why the adjuster just turns but the hour hand moves freely. Thanks for your help. Cheers Mike |

I have managed to remake the main spring arbour which was broken and put it all back together. Clock now winds and ticks. Result. Still have the problem of hour hand which just hangs down at the 6 oclock position. Tried many configerations but small hand refuses to turn.

Right I have the center spindle sticking up, so I place the spring over the spindle with the points facing towards the front. Next I have a small tube with a small cog on the bottom ,this holds the minute hand, if i put this over the spindle so the cog sits on the spring the points of the spring are either side of the cog . Next goes the tube with a bigger cog on, this is the hour sleeve . The spring does not reach this cog so the hour hand spins freely. Still got the washer left over. Still not working. Mike |

Thanks Martin This is all different to the way I have it at present. Sounds promising , I will alter it and let you know how it goes. Mike |

I have a Koma 400 day clock that I am repairing the main spring on. All was going well till I came to putting the hands back on . The big hand sites on a square peg so thats fine ,but the small hand is loose on its shaft. There is some sort of clutch I believe on the small hand but when taking it apart I failed to take notice of the sequence of reassembly. Anyone know what order they go on the shaft. Theres a small flat washer , diamond shaped curved spring and a sleeve that fits over the minute hand shaft, with a cog on the end. Mike |

Hi Anyone had any dealings with Aliexpress based in China. They are offering many model steam engines for sale at silly prices. Examples , a three cylinder compound for 21.08 or a twin cylinder with boiler for 35.62, both post free from China. Not sure if these are kits or assembled but either way to good to be true. Mike |

Progress at last The two male threads turned out to be 1/8 bsp for 3/16 od pipe. I found a bolt that fits the female pressure gauge union perfectly. Tried to measure it with my thread gauge and it comes up as 1.25 not sure what that means. Anyway sealed boiler and did a hydraulic test . Only got to 70 psi and there was leakage from bottom tap on gauge glass, need to sort that out. Plus a water leak where elbow screwed into top of boiler , again got to get some suitable loctite on that. Will do another test later in week. Happy days Mike |

Many thanks for all your advice. I do intend to make some test pieces using brass hex bar. I think I am getting close to finding the correct size , having found out what does not fit. Job is on hold at the present as my workshop is just to hot to work in, I would rather take my time so as not to damage anything. Cheers Mike |

Found and ordered BSP nuts for 1/8 x 3/16 od tube. Seems about the right size , at only 99p each worth a try Just the smaller one to sort out now, will try 1/4 x 26. Many thanks mike

I tried my 1/8 npt 27 die and it screwed on all the way , bit sloppy but I assume because of the taper Do they do a 1/8 bsp in 27 or must it be 28 or 26. Mike |

Hi all Need help in identifying boiler threads prior to sealing and testing for leaks. I have three holes to seal , inlet and outlet , and one for pressure gauge. Inlet and outlet are male threaded , the closest I have tried is 3/8 x 32 tpi. This size union nut starts to go on then jams. Looking at thread I would say this should be a 3/8 buy 28 tpi as the thread is a little courser. I have tried the internet but cannot find this size , is it USA size. The third inlet is for the pressure gauge and is female. Again the closest I can find to fit is a m6 tap but this soon jams after a couple of turns. This is an old boiler but very well made so would like to eventually get it u and running. Thanks in advance Mike

Jason Just looked at that pressure test, put my mind at rest . Mike |

Yes that,s correct. I am using 16 mm brass round bar partly turned down to 14 mm that goes through the tank wall. This will be threaded M10 to accept my fitting for m10 one end 5/16 x 32 tpi the other. I only use the original J.B.Weld so should be ok. Mike |

Tank is 12 inches high by 3 inches round and 1.6 mm thick. I do need to fit bushes about 1 inch from base. No pressure involved so sounds like J. B. Weld is the way to go. Cheers Mike |
