LASER is an acronym so it is correct with an S even if you are American. The S stands for stimulated.

Repairs to the boiler of monarch ( a tube had failed)were being considered before the purchase by the new owners who iirc were thinking of converting it to electric. Monarch was originally out of the water for repairs to the engine. The cylinder liner had come loose.

Monarch was sold 18 months ago. It has been out of the water for over 2 years being sold after boiler failure prevented it being put back in. The condition of Monarch after two years exposed to the elements without being covered is not great. What ever plans the new owners have for her have obviously been delayed. Monarch may be moved to pastures new shortly.

He has no idea about how railways work and seems to like to reinvent the wheel rather than looking at what is out there. He has a clever way of making wheels but the flanges look like a bigger version of course scale 0 Gauge flanges. He measures the gauge from the tread rather than back to back. Some of his other contraptions are a H&S nightmare as well. His wood chopper is just plain scary as to his flash steam boiler using butane gas cylinders as floats, he was surprised when it exploded.

Some of the vidoes on his other channel about his small holding and animals are nice and he does live somewhere near Bantry Bay, lucky man.

Malthus said much the same in 1798. Hasn't happened on a global scale. Most developed countries have stable or even declining populations. The rate of population growth is declining.

oxygen isotope ratios in the tests of microfossils are used as a proxy for ancient temperatures. Water with O16 is preferntially evaporated over water with O18. The higher the water temperature the higher the ratio of O18 to 16 in the tests. The higher the temperature the greater the rate of evaporation. Calibration of the relationship uses corals.

Why does no one ever mention that in many parts of the world it is the ground that is sinking not sea level rising, coral atolls being a classic example, the SE of England another.

Part do appear on a well known auction site quite often.

Try searching for Essel engineering, they make bits for 16mm scale locos but they do have bits for hobbymats, you may have to email or call to find out. I think in teh past they were agents. Get the slow speed adaptor kit if you can.

Hi Michael,

Your picture is segment from a crinoind stem or arm. Still an echinoderm and still a nice picture.

It is not the calyx of a blastoid. They went extinct in the Permian, well before the formation of the Oxford clay which is Jurrasic, at the location you found this. It is not a calyx either as this would be much larger and cup shapped.

Thread: Alternative valve mechanism

would have editted previous post but stil**LINK**l being moderated. A chap called Mike Gaskin built a rather nice model of a darjeeling pacific which looks like it has walschwarts but is slip crank. museum section of anything narrow gauge website will provid pics.

I know 16mm is bigger than O gauge but from the locos I have built I am sure it would not be too big to fit.

Just to add my 2p worth, have a look at the 16mm soc site. there are plans on there for a quarry hunslet (wild rose) which is slide valve slip eccentric. I used the dimensions to make a slip crank version with outside valve chests like you want. It took a few goes to get it to work but it did and it is a lot easier than making eccentrics and rocking lever to bring the motion outside . Not much metal is wasted if you get it wrong either. It doesn't look too bad visually either. I am sure that it will work for piston valves. Sadly I do not have pictures and the loco was made for a friend so not in my posession anymore. I do have a video of it running somewhere. Don't reinvent the wheel!
