I use newish A31 and A23. Its difficult at the extremes, but you will soon have enough variety to suit all combinations.

I knew the photo would cause excitment and instant advice. In fact my extension sleeve is used very occasionally to give an extra 15-20mm reach, typically for a small centre drill, and with the tailstock barrel almost fully retracted. So the net extra extension is very little, but in my case valuable for this particular circumstance.

Here is my 3mt to 2mt extension, for comparison. Works well for me. From Arc.

I use one Stu, for short/small twist drills where the reach is a little short. My dro scale makes the saddle a little wider, so that even my reversed tailstock doesn't quite do the job

I found EP90 far too thin - the thicker oil gives better damping and feed rate control, but is difficult to get in the small quantity required

Pull off the dashpot cover and get the lube in any way you can. The valve should be open, and you will need to be patient whilst the lube passes through the valve to the bottom of the dashpot. Then refit the cover. I use Ford Model A gearbox oil, a 160 weight semi-fluid grease, which just about slumps under it's own weight at 15C.

If you didn't copy, it's not copyright infringement. Copyright is a very limited form of protection, but of course effective if an exact copy is necessary in order to make money - as in copying a book which is within the copyright term.. However, you cannot stop somebody commencing a legal action, even on spurious grounds - so be prepared to state how your rights to the soundtrack came into existence, eg by composition, licence, agreement etc.

Hi Stuart, I intend to make this so some dimensions would help me scale and make a drawing. Perhaps block size and hole centre from top edge, and cam diameter would get me started. I think I can scale the rest to suit my material stock. PM me if you like. Many thanks. JH

Well done Stuart. Have you made any drawings? - though it should be relatively easy to follow your video. This is something I have intended to do for some time as winding the lead screw is tedious, and it solves the only shortcoming I have not yet addressed. JH

I needed a large metric Allen key. Expediency lead to me grinding a fraction off a larger imperial key. A few years later I had to do the same job, but couldn't find the ground down key, so I ground down another to get the job done. Then I found the first ground down key, AND THE SET OF METRIC KEYS I HAD BOUGHT AFTER THE FIRST OCCURENCE.

Dave, the changeover knob moves in and out, and can be very stiff - it needs a good thump or yank, depending on which drive you are stuck with. If it moves down, the quill is not clamped tight.

Failure to supply certification does not mean it is not meehanite, but if it is not then the owner of the registered trade mark will have a straightforward enforcement case.

Gluing aluminium is well proven. Most Aston Martins and JLR models are held together this way with two pack epoxy, and occasionally a rivet at the end of a linear run to guard against peeling, which I believe is the most common failure mode.

Pre-2000 cars will run ok, but may benefit from adjustments to ignition timing and replacement of some rubber components.

Howard, I think your memory is playing tricks. Post-war 14? , with B series? Also, I'm fairly sure that a C series is not a 'B' with two extra cylinders. Wasn't it an independent design from Morris engines?

Could the crankshaft side no longer be 'square' ?, so that the handle cannot apply sufficient torque without being forced out of engagement. IIRC, this is a problem for which an upgraded male/female is sold by A7 specialists.
