Thread: Running 'nukes' in the red

Why might the New Year be 'interesting'? What do you have in mind?

Thread: Can you identify these hand tools?
23/12/2021 09:43:26

It's not just engineering apprentices. My pharmacist wife once had to deal with a student nurse requesting a packet of fallopian tubes.

Thread: Pin-hole in oil pan - which product to patch it?
19/12/2021 19:49:37

I have succesfully sealed a pin hole in a fuel tank at a spot weld. A drawing pin with epoxy under the head, after draining and de-greasing. I then epoxyed a second larger patch with a dished centre to house the pinhead. Still good after 20 years.

No mystery - it says it's a 10B in the description

Thread: Crankshaft Factory

Yes MichaelG, of course I saw 'Belarus' on the box, but your post doesn't answer the question

Here is another lockdown project made from scrap. The return force is by loops cut from car inner tube.

Thread: Crankshaft Factory

I believe there is a factory in Pakistan making MF240 clones for Africa and the Far East, and these would have 3 cylinder diesel, likely a Perkins copy. The quantity being made would indicate mass production. Not sure what the Belarus connection is, though there is a very large tractor factory in Minsk.

But the government will use this to divert the public from real issues, like what is the care home policy ? Can I have a chocolate biscuit please matron.

Thread: Tightening a Threaded Bolt
01/09/2021 16:24:55

From memory, shouldn't it be a shouldered bolt, ie plain portion larger od than the threaded portion?

Thread: To Cap It All
28/08/2021 10:05:05

Vintage radiator threads are, in my experience, all over the place, but a Model A Ford is about 16tpi ( much larger od though). This Ford thread would certainly be 60 degree form. Vintage Vauxhall is much coarser at 8tpi.

Thread: A SIMPLE POINT !
27/08/2021 11:11:52

I was taught (and it seems logical to me) that a macine screw is the generic term, and so called to distinguish from other types, such as wood screws. A bolt is one subset of machine screws, with plain portion of shank. A set screw is another.

Going back to the op problem, I would create a through draft by putting some kind of opening opposite the door - opening to be closable of course. Openings on opposite walls usually create a reasonable air flow, though it might be from the sunny to the shady side. Flow might be fan assisted, maybe with the door 80% closed.

Thread: Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition 2021

A small very crowded venue full of folk in the vulnerable categories. Notwithstanding vaccination, a sensible decision.

Still true John.

Patent law is not the same in all countries, though in Europe it has been somewhat harmonised since 1978. US patent applications have always been filed in the name of the inventor(s), whereas elsewhere the owner is the applicant.

16/07/2021 13:48:50

There are lots of reasons why a patent application would be filed, even for what may seem to be a trivial invention (btw, this is a patent of addition). One might be to establish whether the inventor was entitled to a monetary award.

Why intrigued?
