I must be tired or something. My last post about buying stuff at Trago Mills should have gone in the What have you been up to today, or some such name. Time for bed before I mess up even more.

Haha. I did wonder that exact point . But then i remembered i had answered a comment by PatJ & thought it might have been a off topic skit.

Steve-

A bit off topic perhaps, but what a fantastic Ducati and ride through the countryside video you have.

I guess it goes to show that some of us may look like mere mortal workshop dwellers, some of us have a wild side/wild ride every now and then.

I need to get out my trusty CR500 and take a spin in the new year.

Edit:

I have toyed around with diesel burners for my foundry for a number of years, and have seen both compressed air nozzles, and pressure atomization nozzles with gear pump.

The small diesel heating units do appear to be very nice, and so compact.

Hi PatJ. Thanks for that. Yes we often go out Skipton & Hawes way. We always check the weather. If its going to be fine we head over to the east coast (Yorkshire). Need to get the major service done now, but very expensive so saving the Pennies up.

CR 500 mental machine. Very powerful. My mate had the CR 250 & that was quick.

Well it's been a while since I posted this thread. What a fiasco. Ordering from suppliers who have no stock etc. But show so many in stock.

I did eventually get one & have done a couple of video's of it. I bit of a fudge together of clips & pics but the final outcome has been very successful. I am still working on a air recirc circuit to reclaim ceiling heat, where of course it always ends up. For anyone thinking of fitting one (without burning your property down) Highly recommended.

Not sure if anyone has seen this amazing guy making amazing things. This is a device for cutting most kinds of polygons on a rotating part in the lathe.

Mine has the little tick when running. If i put oil in the front oiler nipple ion the Quill it stops for a little while. Pretty much i guess what you are saying.

I have done this & the full video of how I did it is here.

Thread: Windows Update (Again)

Emgee. Your processor is rather old. My slightly less old Core I5 laptop did the update in about 5 mins. I think they are up to I8 or more by now. My main pc is core I7 quad core. I think or octacore that goes like a rocket. Unfortunataly the rocket has taken it to the repairers. Blooming SSD drive died. Doh. £140 out of pocket coming up. My problem was I had the windows 10 on the dedicated SSD so i got instant boot.

Hi Stuart & welcome. You have lots of equipment already & as said above more than many of us had when starting out.

The workshop. If you build from timber & want insulation then bear in mind that the polystyrene sheets available in all thicknesses will give you a far better thermal value (Insulation) than standard rockwool. I used sandwiched fridge panels 100mm thick which at the moment is holding about a 7 to 8 degree C difference inside to out. But still takes a fair lick to get warm. Most of the year it's not a problem But just now it is.

I have two write ups on my blog relating to my experiences installing and using one of these heaters.

Heater install

Heater Update

Re pump sticking this may relate to using domestic heating oil rather than diesel fuel. Domestic heating oil has no lubricating oil content and therefore the impulse pump will fail. I use a 60/40 mix and have had no problems.

Alan

Good write ups you have done Alan. Thanks for the links.

Thanks for all the input from you members. I did go ahead last night & order one. The one without the enclosed cabinet. I also ordered a t piece & 3 metres of extra 75mm hose. So i can have 2 outlets in the workshop. This is all going to be mounted in my garage.next to the workshop ,behind the interior wall. I already have a power supply. The tank is a wall mounted 10 litre version. All tips taken on board.

From all what you guys have said about cost & what testers have done on video's, I am hopeful that it will be a fair bit cheaper than Electricity.

Hi all. Well this week I have been spending a lot of time in my workshop building the Hemingway large bore steady rest.

So it has cost roughly £8 per day in the ever rising electricity. I have been considering for some time to fit the Chinese made diesel heater to the workshop of which a lot of youtube guys have done. Anyone tried them. It seems they are around 5kw flat out down to around 1kw on 1hz pump cycle. Doing a bit of searching there are quite a few vids of testing their usage of diesel.

Running Kerosine or red diesel it seems on low setting they cost around 12p per hour to run. In my Insulated workshop my heater runs (2kw) flat out for about an hr before hitting the thermostat setting of around 19-20 C. Then on & off as the temperature alters. Brother in law is about to fit one in his latest camper build. But it seems more & more are using them in the garage / workshop.

Any thoughts or experience of doing this addition. I have a few sources of 12v dc power supplies that will handle the electric side of things. They are around £100/£120 on ebay. Direct from China a little over £50 delivered but 1 month delivery.

Thread: Myford or new
08/12/2022 23:38:17

If you have lots of toys for the ML7 then why not look out for a super7. Had mine a fair few years now & although I'm always doing mods to it. If I had anything else i would be doing the same. (Cannot leave things alone.) I have not seen any other brand that i could say was better. Wonderful gears, a great gearbox, good quality castings from a British foundry (I think). Acme threaded leadscrew.

There's a guy on youtube who has just renovated a Southbend circa 1938. That is a lovely old machine & about the same size as the Myford. Probably better too.

Thread: Retro-fit speed control to battery grinder?
04/12/2022 21:30:37

I fitted a speed controller to the x axis power feed mondeo wiper motor on the milling machine. It did not work well, until i realised it was current limiting not voltage. It was 20A unit. I removed this & fitted a lower i think 10A unit & now it controls the speed perfectly. The 1st one looked very much like the one in your picture.

Thread: Stopping everything from rusting.
04/12/2022 20:48:23

As many will know i built a fully insulated fridge panel type garage /workshop. I still have the dehumidifier running through the winter months. I get about a litre of water out every 3 or 4 days. Probably coming through the concrete base.

At my previous house i insulated the garage door with polystyrene panels , which helped. A friend had a company in who fully spray lined the garage with insulation. That was toasty warm, but probably very expensive.

Brother in law had a concrete garage with wriggly asbestos roof. He bought large sheets of poly insulation from the.. builders merchants. He did all the roof & the concrete walls. The walls he then oversheeted with ply . It worked well.

Edit... I still spray coat some cutters & other tools with the shield stuff but i guess these days it is banned.
