... It is not easy for someone to stand in front of a camera and produce a video ...- Steve isn't the best person to demonstrate workshop best practice on screen. Nor am I! Ideally anything for public consumption should be peer reviewed before publication because it's extremely hard for people to see their own mistakes.
Dave
Hi Dave & thanks for the constructive comments from you. Just a couple of points. The video was shortish for me, so i did not show some things. When i took the piece of steel from the drawer. The 1st thing i did was ran a file on the corner to check it would machine. I have a Henry vac 110V . Yet to build a vac system, (A job on the board.) Yet the one i used was just an old one donated to me. Sorry i did say the cutter & the speed i was using but when i sped the vid up to 1000% it blurred out the speech. The txt was just a joke about HSS. 850rpm. The depth of cut is something i just try. So it would not really help anyone But i must say all comments you made are taken on board. I thank you for watching the video. P.S I have posted another pretty unusual one for me of repairing a total write off Motorhome. Did not put a link up as not sure there is a subject that would cover it on here. EDIT. Found vehicle restoration so i have posted it on there. Regards. Steve. Neil, could you maybe pin this to stay at the top. It is already quite a ways down the page & eventually disappear from view. Steve. |

Quite on the contrary. I actually do not mind any comments good or bad. What i do know is i am only a Hammer chewer at all this. So i guess anyone that is a Pro is bound to find my video's Sub standard ,so to speak. Anyway to all that don't mind them then thanks for watching. Steve. |

Welcome! There are bound to be fellow modellers in or near Harrogate If you can, find and join a local M E Club, and join it. You may well be able to pick up some useful bits and material, as well as tips and help; first hand. Howard. Hi & welcome. Yes there is at least 1 member on this site from where you are. I'm not far away in Sunny Leeds. I think there is a few from York too. Steve. |

When my Origonal Honeywell one went duf, i changed & bought a Nest. The Nest is a remote thermostat connected to a USB supply & programmed by your phone on an app. You must have home wifi though. Bought from Screwfix. Steve. |

Stunning. My friend has recently finished a 6" to the foot version in Black. I am hoping to do a video of it when we take it to winterise it soon. Steve. |

For Lead, pretty much anything. Propane would be ideal. The melting temp of Lead is so low. I have even soldered with a Weller gun iron successfully. Steve. |

Thread: 1 HP single Phase motor for mill |
27/09/2022 14:46:28 |
That sounded terrible. Fault somewhere. Sounded like a start winding stuck in or if 3ph a phase down. My Clarke compressor is over 10yrs old now & apart from a new capacitor last year is great. Steve. |

I'm sure they sell a X-Y movable table. Not expensive . Something like this on ebay. X Y table If funds do not allow the purchase of a mill then go for it. Worth a try. Steve. Edited By Steviegtr on 26/09/2022 22:22:49 |

The Machine Mart motors that I have seen in use have been noisy. I would pay a little more and get a quieter motor and I suspect a better quality motor to boot. I am not getting into the classic "quality" arguments often voiced on the forum! Andrew. In my some 50+ years as an Electrician, I never heard a noisy motor of any kind. Unless it was duff of course. I have a 3ph 1.5 Hp machine mart one on the Myford & a 3Ph 1Hp TEC on the Mill. both are pretty silent in operation. The machines themselves are quite noisy but not the motors. |

Are you sure it is 3 phase. We many years ago used to install storage heating. It used a what's called a white meter with a time clock. In the night time the white meter charged up the storage heaters & was at a lower unit cost. It was on the same phase as the standard meter. Steve. |

The supply to the garage / workshop is fed with a SWA cable which i ran underground when building the structure. The house mains is a pair of conductors which run across 5 terrace houses on the brick wall. Each house has a drop from this & into the cupboard where it is through a 60A cutout. There is a ground connection which disappears under the concrete. It is bonded to Gas & water mains. Which i know the gas is now ran in plastic so no earth there. The SWA has a 45A RCD which i fitted at the Henley block. The earth sheath & 1 conductor are connected to the house earth. In the workshop the SWA is glanded to a steel consumer unit. Earth bonded to that & the garage wall by a earth tag. The earth grounding rod i fitted outside was to ground the Tranceiver & other bits. The Coax sheath must be grounded to the garage as it passes through the wall & has a connection . I am going to do as others have suggested 1st , which is ferites on the mains leads to the lamps. If that does not work then i will have to look further. No point in doing anything else just yet. Steve. |
18/09/2022 14:49:42 |
SOD. Plenty to read there. I'll try the ferrite rings on the mains lead to the lamps 1st. As not sure of the response if I tell the Landlady she needs to buy a new lamp. That would probably not go down well. Will persevere with it. Steve |

Hi guys & gals i guess. This is not engineering as such. But I recently got my radio ham Licence. (RAE) after taking the exam back in 1989. I never applied for the Licence , but recently contacted Ofcom. They said a City & guild pass was for life & gave me a licence. So now i have the creds to transmit & talk around the world,, which i do & enjoy. My problem is my table lamp at the side of my bed. So if you have time to watch my video, i would appreciate your input. Knowing there are a lot of very clever guys on the forum, i will except any help you can give me. Not from the usual you are a chimpanzee brigade guys, but from anyone with knowledge of electronics & harmonics. Steve. |

The trailers my friends use have 6 ply tyres fitted. Commercial. From memory they have between 55 & 65 psi in them. Do not use regular car tyes which are only 4 ply. Steve. |

Just to butt in again, but i have quite a few friends who have Traction engines. One has just finished recently his 6" scale Burrell traction engine, which is very heavy. Weight not known but all of them use enclosed box trailers. They are all 4 wheeler type with braking on all 4 wheels. 2 Have Foden steam lorries & again use the 4 wheel enclosed box trailers. Another thing to be very careful of is these things get stolen on a regular basis , so hidden is better. Ok got my coat on. Steve. |
