Thread: Wonky threads using die
20/11/2021 20:44:31

If you have a piece of steel turn this down to the size of your bar about 2" Long then bore a hole that will be a good fit on your 3/16 bar . When you have done this bore a hole in the end the same size as your Die this will then give you a Guide to to keep the whole unit straight .or if you have a larger size die holder thie can be done in the revirse with the held in your die holder and the die in the die holder after you have extented the 3 screws

Hope this helps and that it can be understanded I have made this and used many times

Good luck Bee M

If hyou have a Poundland near you you can buy a aerosol Air Duster for £1.00. This is worth a try I use these very often for quickness.

Yes I did note that your post @ 12;27;23 stated that it does work some times ,, This is why a said that the possibilty was that the contacts in your NVR Contact or the forword and reverse switch may be dirty so causing a poor connection sometimes , If you can get access to these contacts with a small brush and some meths a clean may work together with a puff of air if you have a airline, I used to do a maitenance program on a large laundry which envolved cleaning contactors on 3 phase motors of 25 HP plus which proved a good and reduced breakdowns.

Good Luck

We know now this is Myford Lathe My thoughts are that some contacs in the NVR control are either worn or require cleaning also is this working on 3 phase or single phase . Lack of info is giving rise to a load of unneded answers.

Three phase isolator switch looks like a Bill fused 3phase Isolator Switch , , which looking at its age i would think this has the old conduit thread nuts ,that if cut and removed will not match up with todays metric conduit but is possible to change and update with care? You starter contactor i am puzzled why there are two leads on terminal 1 2 3 . The terminals A B C going to the motor , The contactor has overload protection and as a Brook one matches the motor has this got push button controls , This i feel sure will have a 3 phase coil 24 volt did not exist that far back.

Your Isolator must be supplied from a 3 Phase Distribution board .

More PIcs may provide a answer

Many things you can try if you have the required knowledge , if the answer is know leave alone ,Retired Electrical Engineer & Contractor . I am always very wary about offering advice on anything electrical because of the Danger part . wish you were round the corner and lived in Cambridgeshire.

Good Luck

Try diconectining the motot at the motor end then operate the contactor if this operates then the fault may be your motor , There are a number of things you can try which depends on how famiilar you are with electricity and if you have a meter. ( Make Sure that all of the motor leads at the motor end are all clear and have some insulating tape round them be fore you test the contactor if you are not happy withe this idea leave alone. 3 PHASE CAN KILL

Hi Steve 255, Am i corrected in thinking your lathe is a Zxto , If so have a look on Ebay there is one that is a rebuilt may give you some clues. I think the original bearing was tapered like my Faircut

I have found very gentle and light cuts produces a fine finish

Have 3 AVO all different 1 Avo Multimeter over 60 years old and still works fine 2 Avo model 8 possibly bought early seventies 3 X British Rail did not work when givin , But i repaired same somtime later wormks perfect ,Also a Sangamo Voltage and Ammeter 1970 vintage stilwork fine . Have had 3 different model digital meters all now gone us . Definatley prefer a scale model instrument, my thoughts you only get what you pay for the 3 digital only cost a fraction of what i paid for my No8.

Thread: Air regulation for my Engine
25/09/2021 11:14:23

A compressor regulator as shown when adjusted will give you 2 bar and more ,your compressor may well have one fitted . To have precise control of the air to your model you require a needle valve which you can open to a suitable pressure which the more you open this the more bar pressure you will supply to your model.

I have just built a small osillating model with my lathe that runs on 4 bar . Has only taken me over 40 plus years to decide that I had the time for this , Hope to add a photo soon.
