Thread: Solid Rubber Oil Seal
10/11/2020 13:22:50

No idea.

They were just quoting for standard oil seals, it took a lot of explaining for them to understand what they were. Then they couldn't help.

Only quote I had was £700 for 8 of them to be made.

Sorted now though thanks.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have managed to find a previous invoice and have now ordered some more.

It is like a square section o-ring with the internal and external faces being tapered.

Thread: Huanyang VFD help please

You could have a pot. wired on each switch position to give a quick change to a known different speed.

I have my milling machine setup like this, a three position switch with a pot. on each switch. I can setup it up for when I am drilling / tapping a lot of holes, one position is drilling speed, another is another drilling speed, the last is tapping speed.

Thread: Solid Rubber Oil Seal
09/11/2020 14:51:23

Afternoon,

I am looking for some solid rubber oil seals.

We have a rotating shaft that is hollow and filled with oil, there is a sleeve around the shaft with pipes connected that lets the oil flow into the shaft but stays stationary.

Inside are solid rubber oil seals that prevent the oil leaking between the rotating shafts and the stationary couplings.

I've spent most of the morning trying to find them, spoken to over 20 seal suppliers and haven't got anywhere.

The seals I took out are pretty damaged, I've found the following information in machine logs, but not what they are actually called!

Seal size I/D 68mm to 70mm ascending O/D 88mm to 92mm ascending

Can anyone advise me about these please.

Thread: How can a steel thermos drinks flask fail?
09/11/2020 14:43:36

I've seen Thermos Flasks where the tapered slot that the handle fits into, has been made upside down.

So you can be holding it with the handle and the flask just drops off!

Thread: Bore Measuring Gauge
12/03/2020 07:50:31

Morning,

We are looking for a Bore Measuring Gauge for measuring the barrel of a plastic extrusion extruder.

It would need to measure 50-80mm ideally and have a depth that you can measure at to be around 1 meter.

We are struggling to find anything that long without paying silly money as we will only use it a couple of times a year at most.

Thanks.

Thread: Power Feed on Bridgeport not working.
15/07/2019 15:35:40

For future reference there should be a short across the field winding (pins 4 & 5 on the Erskine) when the lever is in the mid-position (stop).

Thanks for the advice.

I've sent it away to an exchange company as I didn't have a lot of time to look at it.

Nothing noticable on the board, no damaged tracks, no popped capacitors, no burnt resistors.

Thanks.

Just a quick reply, as I'm still working on other breakdowns:

There seems to be 2 types of Erskine, or at least I have found two wiring diagrams wichi show completely different wiring to the connections.

Here is a link to a post on another forum that is related to an Erskine power feed. It contains a schematic which should help tracing the problem. You may have to join the forum to view all of the information. If that is the case let me know and I will post the schematic here.

Les.

Thanks, I'll have a look later when the important jobs are done!

Morning,

We have had problems with the cables before. All cables have been tested end to end and between cables (to test if they have become damaged and connected inside the conduit).

Brushes are fine, replaced a few months ago I believe.

Hi, will do.

It stopped as it was traveling at a slow speed with quite a small cut.

Thanks.

Morning,

Our powerfeed on the X axis of our Bridgeport isn't working.

There is a 110v supply to the Erskine unit, which reads ok, although the transformer was pretty hot this morning. No idea what it's normal temperature is.

The potentioneter goes from 0-50k ohms as if it is new.

The fast travel button shorts out the pot, as expected.

Both microswitches have been tested at the crimps just below the mircoswitches, both has 1x NO & 1x NC contacts, all good. When connected back up, they seem to switch polatity as they should.

All cables have been tested end to end, and between each other. All good.

Motor armature and field have resistances that you'd expect (I've forgotten readings!).

Reset button in Erskine unit has been pressed possibly a hundreds times!

When powered on (switch for powerfeed on, main on button pressed & direction selected via lever connected to microswitches), there is no voltage to microswitches from Erskine unit, nor any voltage to armature or field.

Any advice please?

I'm presuming it's a new Erskine unit needed?
