I had a emcomat 7 for about 2 year and loved it. It was my 1st lathe. The one i had also had the milling head witch was very useful. I sold it on eday and got £550. as always its only worth what someone is willing to pay but for me if its not got the milling head id be lookinv at more the £400 mark.

No iv not got taper attachment so your correct it make no difference but it does gind on me that some took a hack saw to my old girl lol.

Do not ask my why but for some reason my model a has had the taper attachment lug cut off mine.

I would say two of the cross slides this seller is selling our from a smart and brown lathe I have just popped into the garage to have a look at my smart and brown model a cross slide and they are extremely similar the font on the dial is the same

Just buy one, you'll find some space for it somewhere. I got mine last year after watching abom79, steve summers and lookcreations on you tube. I was saving up for a milling machine at the time but i thought milling machine come up for sale every day but shapers not so much. I was lucky and got one in very good condition with a vice, clamp kit and lots of shaper tooling for £400 if my memory serves my correctly. Its an alba 1a. Iv been using it today cleaning up saw cut cast iron. I was taking 90 thou depth of cut with a step over of 25 thou running at 75 strokes per minute. The machine handled this no problem. I am still going to buy a milling machine when funds alow as im fortunate to have the space. I enjoy using my shaper that much im going to complete harrold hall's book "milling a complete course" using my shaper as im new to machining and i think ill learn loads. Also ending up with some very useful tools in the process. If your in the hull aera come have a go on mine.

Hi all

I have a 4x6 bandsaw recently bought second hand. It came without a blade. So off to screwfix i went, picked up a blade and fitted it. But the blade just will not stay on. Dose any know of a video or write up that will help me set up the blade properly?

My advice (from a complete novice) is build tools first.

Brass tipped nocker / hammer

Tap follower

Tail stock die holder

Tap wrench

T nuts

Maybe a QCTP if you don't already have one.

Harrold hall has a web site with lots and lots off free plans that are easy to follow. All made from cheap bar stock and once made very useful. Then progress to kits and castings, but saying that if you have the cash crack on as it may get costly buying signal items from kits that you fooked up learning.

Hi all

i have been given 2 boxes of zpfd0302-mg ybg302 inserts but no tool holder Can anyone tell me how to work what holder i need and if there is a cheap equivalent as im not in a position to spend £100's on a tool holder.

I have a QCTP but only one tool holder so untill i have the time to make some more (10-15) its stays on the shelf. My current set up is 3 fore way tool posts all set up with the most common tools that a use, 2 tools in each holder. Its surprisingly quick just a whip off the fore way and change it with another.

A fire piston maybe.

Clickspring on YouTube have a good video on his channel.

Lathe tool hight gauge

Chuck key (iv just done this myself) not so difficult and useful.

Do a simple sketch with dimensiones and try and hit the numbers to the thou.

Read a thread on here recently about someone turning their lathe into a grinding machine not really recommended due to all the dust contamination but if cleaned down properly I can't see any issue sorry don't have a link

This is the sort of thread I was planning on doing with my faircut lathe before I came across the damaged headstock. Very interesting reading so far keep the progress updates coming. I still need to sort out the bits it's that you need as soon as I get five minutes in the garage I'll photograph what I've got an email them to you.

Bit of help/advice on grinding wheels and cup wheels please.

I like grinding my own HSS tooling for my lathe and shaper, mainly free hand but i need to machine a acme thread in a couple of projects time. So im correctly making a grinding rest to help me achieve accurate angles on the tool. The grinder rest design iv settled on is a mash up of several iv seen on YouTube and sites like this. So my question is what grit and what type/style of wheel would best suit my needs. The HSS i mainly have is mo max and super mo max up to 3/4. I should ad ill mainly finishing my hand ground tooling not hogging off large amounts as iv got a bigger grinder for roughing.

I have one of these myself. Not used it as closer inspection revealed the head stock was cracked. Iv been told its not repairable. So i have spares you you need any stuff. Think iv got pictures of it im my album if you'd like to have a look.
