Thread: EN1A alternative

As was mentioned earlier in this thread--- I thoroughly recommend Steel2Go in Grantham EBAY. I have used them for several years and had superb service and quality from them. I must add that I am not connected to them JUST a very satisfied customer..

Thread: Another workshop insulation question

If you think that running electrics to the shed is ludicrous try getting the go ahead to lower a path so that you can drive onto your property and not block the road with your legally parked vehicle.. LOCAL COUNCILSsecret..

Thread: ME vertical boiler
07/10/2018 15:37:31

Coming a bit late to this thread, I am a complete newcomer to making a boiler or silver soldering. I started reading this series of articles at about the time that the pump was being finished. I have a need for an upright boiler for a project that I am in the process of drawing up and am going to attempt this boiler first as a learning exercise. I do agree that some of the articles do seem a bit long winded at times but for us complete beginners please remember that you cannot build the house until the foundations are in and correct!!!!! I have one problem in that I have ordered and recieved all of the back issues except for one. I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask but has anyone got a copy of ME 4578 19th January 2018 that they are willing to sell me? This is for Part 2 of the boiler build. Many thankc JC

Thread: Traction Engine (Electric)
29/09/2018 22:48:26

I regularly display an electric powered "traction engine" that my late father built around 2000AD. It is 12v and will just pull you along. Due to ill health I now show the Threshing Drum and Elevator that he built. If any interest can try to upload pictures.smile o

Thread: Beer and Grapefruit
21/09/2018 22:56:35

As there is no pub in our little village I brew my own beer. Very similar to Newkie brown a bit darker. Advantages,,, 50p a pint, not drinking and driving, We brewed ginger beer as a youngster using a "Ginger Beer Plant" we bottled it in any bottle we could find, beg or steal. It exploded in the airing cupboard that put a ban on brewing at home.... Mother was not amused but Dad could be seen snickering when he thought we couldn't see him. John

Thread: Cross slide backlash Mini lathe
21/09/2018 21:07:01

Following up on feedscrew endfloat, when I got my first lathe (a 1908 Drummond) I was horrified to find 10mm of backlash in the cross slide... Thinking where do you get parts for a 110 year old lathe, panic. On closer inspection majority of it was in feedscrew endfloat. Couple of spacers and thrust bearings backlash now tolerable. May try a Delrin feedscrew nut sometime but at the minute too busy learning how to use the lathe. John

Thread: The colour of threshing machines.
14/09/2018 23:52:57

My late father built a model Clayton Threshing Drum and it is painted a yellowish beige with pink framework. He helped with a real one until after WW2 so should have got the colours correct. Small world Adam we are in Grantham area still....

Thread: Doncaster Exhibition 2019
14/09/2018 22:46:09

There are pedestrian crossings over the road from the car park, also a brilliant fish and chip shop next to car park.wink
