Thread: Clarke CL251mh Milling Attachment Wiring Help |
17/08/2019 21:00:23 |
I have just aquired a Clarke CL 251mh Milling Attachment that would have been the milling attachment for the Clarke CL250m Micro-Lathe,. I would like to make the Milling Attachment CL251mh into a Stand-Alone Milling Machine,.The Milling Attachment would normally be connected to the back of the Lathe via the cast-iron Foot at the base of the 45mm Dia Column, then a Jack-Plug (Kettle type plug) connects directly to a matching (kettle type plug) also on the back of the lathe bed,. All the Power ie Variable Speed/ Forward/Reverse/ Powerdrive Control Knob, and the Lathe / Mill-Drill Head Selector On / Off Switch comes from the Lathe,.I don,t need most of these, All I would require would be a 13amp power supply to a NVR Switch then through a Variable Speed control to the Motor,. The Motor is Single-phase 230v AC 50Hz 1 Ph. Power Rating 150Watt. Currant Rating 5 Amp. The motor is Small 3" Dia x 4.5Lg Spindle Speed 10-1300,. This Motor is the supplied motor and fitted as standard,. As this is a Stand Alone project there is no Start Capacitor or any method of variable speeds etc attached, I have bought a NVR Switch the basic type Without the Emergency Stop also bought the Variable Speed Control 2000w AC SCR Electic Voltage Regulator/Speed Controller,. I also notice the outer casing on the motor is a strong magnetic using a screwdriver ( just thinking is this a different type of motor). I have tried to run this connecting up direct to a matching plug with a circuit breaker ahead first, the Motor is trying to Run but only very slowly and is Stuttering,. It Does NOT trip the Circuit breaker,. I confess to having very little electrical knowledge with Motors,. Any Help or Advise would be Gratefully Received,. Pete Retired Fitter/Turner 75yrs. |
Thread: Harrison L5 "HELP Please" |

I have owned a Harrison L5 Lathe for over 30 years which has suddenly develloped a dangerous fault . The Clutch Lever Mechanism on the headstock will not engage and fall into its groove to keep the chuck rotating, I can manually locate it by pushing it in,to keep the machine running,. The problem is more dangerous when trying to STOP the machine. Any help on this issue please,.cheers Pete |

Hi "Thanks" for your Help & Advise,it seems certain from your info that it is an Induction Motor, and therefore not possible to convert cheaply into a variable speed motor,my home made attachment showing a 1/2 end mill with support bush was ok for non ferrous metals like brass and aluminium were ok,but certainly not good for steels etc,. May I again "Thankyou" for your time and advice, back to plan B and search out a cheap old type 3-4 speed belt driven vertical mill,. Regards Pete. |

Hi, I have a Salida SL1900 Bench Mortiser Machine, I plan to make-up a feed to the Up & Down movement, instead of the fitted movable handle to the column, it has an X &Y movement travel in & out and table travel,. The problem I have is the Fixed Motor Speed 50Hz 2850 rpm Single Phase 220-240 volts 1 hp.(750 watts) Is it possible to use a commercial type 1000 watts Dimmer Switch to vary the speed, or is there another method of reducing the speed |

Hi Neil, "Thanks" for the welcome message, I feel sure I will eventually find the vertical mill that will suit me and my budget, ideally the little Emco, but there are plenty of other variety,s of these older 3-4 speed belt driven mills around, but they seem scarce here in Cornwall, so we live in hopes,. Neil I think I should have called myself Pete.F or something similar in the initial account set - up other than Peter FERNIE 1 or is that what I view only, any help along the way will be appreciated |

Hi All,having just joined the Forum,I am finding my way around the site, . I am a retired Fitter/Turner, Aged 75 yrs. I am in the process of putting together a small workshop, I have an old Harrison Lathe L5, but would like a small bench milling machine, as an apprentice I spent a lot of time on a early 1960,s EMCO series 3000 Mill,. It doesn,t need to be in good condition as I was involved in maintenance previously, as long as it is reasonably priced,. Thankyou, Pete. |
