What Clive said, as the reverser gets closer to neutral you will get progressively less movement of the valve rod and as that is what drives the lubricator you won't get enough movement of the arm to engage the next notch on the ratchet. If your engine won't stop then your regulator is letting by Is that something I could sort? Im an ex mechanic so used to lapping things in etc? |
03/06/2019 12:25:15 |
so if I push the lever forward I can just control with regulator and pump will work ok like that? The only prob I have is when the regulator is shut the engine slows but doesnt stop completely unless I stop the flywheel manually? |

Dunno about the Minnie, but my Allchin water pump drive is off the crankshaft. The lubricator drive is off the valve spindle so the ratchet stroke is altered by the position of the reversing lever. If the stroke were to be too small, the drive wouldn't pick up a new tooth. I can't see that being an issue as the engine won't run with the valve gear in that position anyway. As long as the pump works with the cut-off at a working position., that's OK. Hey Clive, what do you mean by cut off? Yes.the pump works from the valve spindle and your correct what you say re.picking up the next tooth? Please excuse my ignorance,so your saying as long as its working with the lever forward or reverse thats ok? Thanks Terry |

Hi, After having a new boiler built for my Minnie, and rebuilding it,I cant seem to get the oil pump to work when the forward/reverse lever is in neutral? When its fully forward or back its fine. Any ideas or is this how it is? Thanks |

You might just get away with a 3.5g shovel from Blackgates they are 7/8" wide or just a long handled tea spoon seems quite common. Blackgates also do little galv buckets so you can clean the engine afterwards Thanks for that Jason. You wont remember, but I was the guy with the leaking 'Minnie'? Just had a new boiler made for it.Just putting it back together complete with paint job!!

As said enter the correct title "Scale Model Traction Engine Building" into the search on abe books site and hope you get the £30 one not the ones over £80
Or you could save your money as the magazines that had the build articles in them are on this site and the book is basically a collection of those articles. Just increase the number at the end of the URL to get the next mag here Edited By JasonB on 05/07/2018 17:49:55 would £80 all up be a fair price? |

Hi Terry, Sorry to hear about your Minnie .But I wondered if it runs on air alright? If so, would you consider selling, as I am looking for a small traction engine just to run on air in the workshop? If so, perhaps you could kindly email me at: itechnician2014 at gmail dot com. Thanks. Mark

Did you ever find out exactly where the leak is coming from? Is it totally not fixable, not even for non-public use? Edited By Hopper on 23/06/2018 10:43:11 Hi,I took some pics with my endoscope and you can actually see it coming out but I cant find how to post them? |
